Ayala had no head movement!!!! And there were 3 legends in that division when he was fighting there. Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez and Roberto Duran, all would have destroyed Ayala with his lack of defense. I even think guys like Davey Moore and Mark Medal would have stopped Ayala. With his defense you cannot last long and in the 1980's had some hard punching 154 pound fighters.
My boy Michael Nunn. His flaw was lack of focus in the ring. Sometimes he looked like he was going through the motions. Also he was almost always on the bad end of close decisions.

The only one of those guys mentioned that had even somewhat of a chance of besting Tony is Hearns, given his right hand. Benitez and Duran couldn't possibly last more than a few rounds. They were lightweights! Moore could punch but with his lack of defense would've been blown apart by Ayala's bombs. Hearns aside, Tony was the hardest 154-lb. puncher of them all!
Was Tony Ayala really any better than Juan D. Roldan??? Personally, I think Roldan proved much better..... Ayala never proved himself in the ring...... Ayala has a legacy based on "gym" tales....... WORD! MR.BILL
Jose Luis Lopez with any amount of dedication and focus would have ruled the welterweights... or at least been in the mix at the very highest level.
