    yep
he also beat chuvalo ellis patterson lyle bugner quarry cooper and archie moore plus liston and foreman like you said
minus frazier and its still a goddamn good resume without argument
you can't say the same for Frazier at all... that's his best win

Yes, Ali's legacy is secure - no doubt about that. However, without the wars with Frazier, it wouldn't be such a great one. Patterson and Moore were over the hill, Bugner only looked to survive, not win, and I'm pretty sure Frazier dealt to Quarry as well. You can't call any of those guys 'great' in heavyweight history. Don't get me wrong, I grew up watching & rooting for Ali. I'm not debating Frazier's legacy here - he was a very good heavyweight and would be a footnote in heavyweight history without Ali - but he made Ali great is what I'm saying and that's some compliment to Smokin' Joe.

One more thing - Frazier beat Ellis twice, Quarry twice, Bugner, Bonavena twice and Chuvalo. Plus - he was only ever beaten by Ali & Foreman. Not a bad record at all, I'd say.

Why would I be kidding? To think that I would be highlights your own ignorance of the heavyweight rankings of the 1960's and 1970's.He fought them all.Besides Evander Holyfield,no other heavyweight even comes close to matching the level of opposition that he fought over the course of a twenty year career.

Largely based upon Frazier? I'm sorry, what? Because the Rocky character is from Philadelphia? I'm assuming you saw a clip of the delusional old man attempting to take credit for the character in some youtube clip that was posted not long back.

Rocky is a far more important figure to the city of Philadelphia than Joe Frazier is.This is undeniable.People don't spend their own money to go visit Joe Frazier;they will, however, spend it to visit the city, just to run up the steps - just like the Rocky character did.

Frazier will "forgive" when the time and money is right - like it has been about ten separate occasions over the last decade.

Joe's outlook on Ali has seemed to alter with his moods over the years. Sometimes he takes the forgive and forget route, and on other occasions, the bile still comes out.

It would still be a great legacy even without joe.
Joe is the one that's hurting if you take away Ali.
I'll give you Patterson and Moore
Bugner actually didn't look to survive, he was looking to box with Ali but that didn't work obviously
You're right you can't call them great. But which fighters can actually say that they beat multiple all time great fighters. Ali can, with out without Frazier.

Yes he had a fine set of wins. But without Ali it's not nearly as special. That's pretty clear I think.
You can say that Ali would be fine without Frazier though, as he still had Liston, Foreman, and Patterson, all 3 all time greats. Frazier can't have a claim for that if you take away Ali from his resume.

Sorry pal, but the character of Rocky WAS based upon Joe Frazier, not completely, but large elements of the character were. No, I don't have access to YouTube - I read books. If you don't believe me, see what Sylvester Stallone has to say about it. I'mnot talking about the 'people' of Philadelphia - I'm talking about knowledgeable boxing fans. I couldn't care less who runs up the steps to emulate 'Rocky'. Look at my original post again - I said Frazier defined Ali's greatness. I never said Ali wasn't great - of course he was - but his legacy would not be the same without with Frazier-Ali I & III. I'm not asking you to debate Frazier's legacy. Ali never ducked anyone - he fought the best on offer - I'm not debating that. Ali would tell you himself that nobody beat him up and took him to the edge of death like Frazier did - and he was never the same after it. Someone else mentioned earlier in this thread that they are both mentioned in the same breath - I think that about sums it up.

Another thing - you do a huge disservice to Ali and his legacy by dismissing Frazier. Tell me, have you ever watched Frazier-Ali III and Ali's post-fight comments? I have. Many times. How Ali came back from such a beating through rounds 4 to 11 is beyond comprehension. Where he found the energy, fortitude and character to drag himself from such a dark place speaks volumes for his tenacity, courage and self-belief. That fight defined his greatness.
I was there in '75 watching it and reading about it in the weeks beforehand.
Read what 'define' means in the dictionary - or do you just rely on YouTube? 'Define' - "to determine the boundary or extent of, to describe the nature of."
Ask Muhammad Ali who his nemesis was (do you know what that word means?). Ask him who his greatest fight was against. If you don't believe me, I suggest you read 'Ghosts of Manila' by Marrk Kram.
I never mentioned Ali ducking anybody, Holyfield, or 'Rocky' - the latter is fiction - do you know what that means? It means pretend, made up. I suggest you read my post more carefully before climbing on to your anti-Frazier bandwagon. Ali himself wouldn't agree with you.

Stallone says he wrote Rocky after watching Wepner. That is who he credited as his inspiration

ali vs liston both mafia jobs,

    frazier won the 1st,

would have won the 2nd if judge wasnt paid off (plus the ref allowed illegal holding)

3rd fight joe was unlucky that he had been blind in his left eye for his whole career otherwise he would have gone out for final round.

rumble in the jungle... loose ropes, bigger ring than normal (all orchaestrated by ali camp) heat was messed up and foremans food was spiked.

Norton shud have won all the fights robbed of decision.

He wasn't. Very far from it. Do your homework, otherwise you'll come off as ignorant.
