He was concerned about Cotto's obesity problem, wanted to make sure he was in shape for the fight so nobody would go "Ah, you're like the Klitschkos! All your opponents are fat!"
Problem being Arum had given Clottey orders pre-fight to basically stand still and not throw at all. He was literally a punching bag and not because of Manny's perceived skill.
I say fighting at catchweight is more normal than sniffing girls' panties given safe opportunities. :yep
Every non-bias fans know why? Plus Cotto's personal problems and not even being fully heal from the Clottey fight. This fight was put very quickly for it's reasons.
It's not hard to figure out. A guy whose natural fighting weight is 140 (even then he's considered very small for that weight), was fighting a bigger 147 fighter. In order to compromise and level the playing field, they agreed upon a catchweight of 145. Simple.
because pac wasn't sure if he was ready for the welterweights. hell before pac beat cotto even the *****s were saying pac vs floyd should be at a catchweight of about 143 to be fair to both and floyd can easily make the weight :rofl
Your question has been asnwered already. Pac just weighed in 138 for his last fight, Cotto weighed in at 146 for his last fight. Pac jumping up 7lb and Cotto dropping 1lb IS NOT to Pac's advantage. To Pac's advantage would be Cotto dropping down to 140lb. The fight was still to Cotto's advantage but I guess they were trying to even things out a bit and minimise Pac's handicap by setting up a catchweight. /thread.
Exactly, team Pac themselves were unsure of how Pac would handle WW power. Thats why in the post fight interview of the Cotto fight, Pac said he went to the ropes deliberately to test Cotto's power as everyone was saying he couldn't handle it. He wanted to find out for himself. This I believe is the same reason why they didnt want a big puncher like Mosley straight after Hatton, they were unsure of their capabilities at WW.
