I found this post over at a scenic place, very harsh, overly so. but i did have a chuckle, and thought i'd share atsch "Theres only one Ricky Hatton" I hope that's true, I really, really do. This man, of mediocre talent, was overrated by some in the UK, as some kind of Sugar Ray Robinson/ Cassius Clay hybrid, only better. Obviously now, we all know what he was, the most overrated fighter in the history of the sport, a domestic level fighter, who fooled many. The writing should have been on the wall, Tzsyu retired after he fought Hatton, because he was old, and tired. Hatton then faced Welterweight Gatekeeper Luis Collazo, and lost. Oh he got the decision, but Collazo won that fight. Going into the Mayweather fight, Hattons fans were saying he'd Ko Mayweather, based on nothing. He lost, was battered and destroyed in savage fashion, by a defensive fighter, who doesn't ko people, even old lightweights. "There's only one Ricky Hatton" they chanted. Next up, it was old lightweight, Juan Lazscano. Hatton lost again, he was stopped by Lazscano late in the fight, but the ref gave hatton 10 minutes to tie his shoelaces and steal a win. He then fought Maglinaggi. Next up was Pac-Man "Hatton will bully him and ko him" Pac man proceeded to violate Hatton in the ring, in the most one-sided fight ever seen in boxing, Hatton was Flatton'ed and left a quivering heap in front of the entire world, our fighter, the British guy, humiliated. Some people still think Hatton should be in the IBHOF, based on what? willingness to get smashed? Because theres nothing else, Hatton is an embarrasment. Hatton, C level boxer, A level con man
Pathetic comment from some moron. "Domestic level fighter". I love the revisionist crap about Tsyzu...oh he was retired and shot. Sure, that's why all the same people who watched him demolish Mitchell said he would murder Hatton. Tsyzu did not look slower or shot, he fought how he always fought, but wasn't able to keep the fight and the range and pace he likes due in part to Hatton being allowed to get away with too much mauling early on, but later due to Hatton at that time being a beast in terms of stamina and pressure. Hatton broke him down and it wouldn't have been any different a year earlier. The domestic comment is truly ******ed simply by virture of the fact that even beating a gatekeeper like Tackie puts you far ahead of domestic level. Tackie was deemed good enough an opponent for Mitchell and Tsyzu only a couple of fights before he faced Hatton, but when Hatton fought him it was another case of "ducking" good fighters. And Hatton thrashed him in a controlled performance that was more impressive than the job Mitchell did on him. He was overprotected for too long and due to his awful lifestyle shortened his career, he should have fought Tsyzu a year earlier and then had two years at 140 fighting the best. Whatever version of Hatton turned up to fight PBF and Pacman would lose, those two are elite and on another level to him. But the pathetic bias and hatred that leads to people twisting history is a total farce. And his huge popularity was not about people being conned into thinking he was the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson, Frank Bruno was hugely popular and followed by thousands abroad and not because anyone felt he was Englands very own Muhammad Ali. Boxing "fans" seem to have some of the most biased, dishonest twats in the sporting world.
a lot of people dont like to hear it, but that's an accurate post about Hatton. It's amazing to think how many people his charade fooled. He was a ridicuously overrated fighter with an awful style, and his true colours began to emerge when the going got tough. I called it from the start.
It was his wins over Tszyu followed by a streak of dominant wins over solid contenders and B level fighters like Urango, Maussa, Castillo (at that time shot, but coming off a close win against Ngoudjo). He also had a narrow decision against Collazo who was a top10 guy at a higher weight. Then after his loss to Floyd he dominated Malignaggi who was considered by many the top guy at 140 and a top 5 guy by all.
Whats the actual point in posting a comment from a nobody and starting a thread about it.... Really? We've got Betty.
Thats funny Ricky ws a decent fighter who`s lifestyle caught up with him. I wish him all the best he wa great for British Boxing losing to Pac Man and Floyd is no disgrace.
Earl, up your game or **** off This **** got old 5 years ago, and it is a load of ****, make no mistake
Embarrassment? So do you go and post on athletics forums when a British sprinter finishes last in a 100m final? Is Frank Bruno a disgrace too because he was clumped by Mike Tyson? Go and hang yourself, *****
