Firstly, I just said it in a friendly tongue in cheek manner with a wink. However seeing as it's being questioned, it is indisputable that with guys like Tony Cascarino there was a strong contingent in that team which were not born in Ireland. Jack himself states that he went on the search for players with even the most tenuous links to Ireland.

To be fair, you can't have a pop at Charlton for looking at players the England selectors had ignored..... he and Maurice Setters turned many of them into outstanding international players.

With one of Waddle or Lineker they'd have been in with a damn good shout of winning Italia 90, and were probably the strongest side in Europe in 1992, **** know's how they didn't qualify.

20+ top class players, most of them at their absolute peak too..... it would have been a cakewalk.
