I didn´t need a counter argument since there was no argument to begin with.

What I did was the same as you did. Just in short.

No one's saying Uzcudun was a bum. In his day, he was considered a pretty fair attraction. He beat his share of second-raters like Von Porat and Hansen, and finished off a sad Harry Wills, but when he stepped up he lost to guys like Jack Delaney, Johnny Risko, Mickey Walker, Tommy Loughran, Tuffy Griffiths, etc. Not exactly big men. He never beat anyone as good as Doug Jones or Jerry Quarry for instance.

Toe to toe, any fair assessment has to give the edge to George with better all-round skills.

  3. is paulino uzcudun, not paolino. i am spanish. paulino was very strong, very solid, he did beat max baer, just joe louis did stop paulino in his last fight. but i think that chuvalo would win by sd.

Excuseme, amigo! You are, of course, corect, but I like "Paolino" because it captures the correct pronunciation of his name.:thumbsup

I must also agree with your prediction of the fight, a win by decision for Chuvalo.

Great match up! To best judge Uzcudun, I receomend seeing him vs. Shchmeling. Schmeling out classes Uzcudun, but Uzcudun's effort and skills can be judged far better here than vs. an old Wills.

    I have to disagree.

Jerry Quarry might be better than anybody that Uzcdun beat on the day he beat them but the circumstances of the win were not entirely satisfactory.

I dont think Doug Jones is better than the best fighters Uzcdun beat.

With regard to Uzcduns losses, I think they both lost to some people they shouldn't have.

  10. i think that baer would beat quarry

paulino was part of a european invasion on americas strangle hold on the HW title at the end of the 1920's that included carnera and schmeling. There was an albeit short period during the twentys where paulino was seen as something of a future world beater, a spainiard drawing 30,000 plus crowds in america.

paulino dropped a few close decisions to good fighters, was disqualified a couple of times (once after he KO'd his opponent) but drew with a peak schmeling and beat max baer. IMO All the fighters paulino lost to as a contender were beter than pat mcmurty, pete radmacher and eduardo corletti who beat chuvalo at his peak.

I dont think there was ever a time where chuvalo was considered anything more than a solid contender. chuvalo did not beat any world champions - jimmy ellis included -even if he did give patterson a very good fight.
