I am sorry man, but you're just wrong. You must be new to boxing. Ali is much bigger than Woods, Jordan and Babe Ruth COmbined. He transcended boxing and spots in general. You really just must be young to think that.

What Ali did, what he was involved in was much more culturally significant on a global scale then any other athelete ever. It would be like if Tiger Woods decided to stop playing golf all together until we withdrawal troops from the middle east ( a stretch ).

Tiger has his women, Jordan his gambling and ego, Ruth had his Alchohol... Ali had a Revolution ..

    so please stfu

  2. Great! Owned your ass and got you volunteered to stay away from me.

    Win win situation for me.

    2 birds, 1 stone.

    :hi:

  3. Some fool said he's the biggest and most well-known athlete in history. And that was what I was debating. If you talk strictly about sports, then Jordan, Woods, and Ruth are bigger than Ali because they're legends in mainstream sports.

CULTURALLY, Ali is the biggest SIMPLY because his involvement with Vietnam.

How's that so ****ing hard to understand?

    :tired

The moron fails to realize that Ali has been voted sportsmen of the century numerous times. He won the award from sports illustrated in america, he also won the award in the UK.

  8. You're telling me that if Ali had not been linked with Vietnam, a time of extreme civil unrest in America, that he would still be as big as he had become today? What Ali did made him the face of humanitarianism at the time. You take Vietnam out of the picture, and Ali wouldn't have won sportsman of the century.

I'm not saying Ali caught a free ride. But you can't not attribute Ali's greatness to what he did OUTSIDE of the ring.

My brother was at Ali's house in phoenix and didn't even know it. He finished his work and then got to meet him. I will forever be jealous

Bruce died at 32, same age as Manny now. Sure his death help propel him to legend status, but he was already a huge star in China and his film set to come out just after his death in the US Enter The Dragon is what really got people.

Think of any fight scenes in movies these days, bourne identity, matrix, he opened doors to the likes chuck norris, van damm, steven seagul, jet li, chan etc. Heck everytime you see ANY fight scene in movies. It's all choreographed much better now, gone are the days when it was simply messy punch ups, directors concentrate much more on fight choreography. Sure Bruce didnt tell them to do so, but it all started from his movie.

Then you factor how these movies created an influx of martial art schools that went from hundreds into tens of thousands and you have lifestyle changes for many people, those who enrolled in karate, kung fu, whatever. I started in martial arts and eventually got into boxing. Think how many kids/adults have been inspired to take martial arts because of Lee, or his movies, or other martial art movies that followed after his death. Heck, SRL himself said he was inspired by Bruce.

Also Lee was the first asian superstar in western culture. Whether we like it or not, as popular as he is, he has opened up a lot of doors for other aspiring asian actors and created stereotypes along the way on how people view asians. A lot of kids still think all asian guys know kung fu. He also wiped out certain stereotypes as before that, asians were only casted to be clowns.

We can look at Ali and think hes great, and he is extremely famous etc. However I think Lee has had bigger impact on a more personal level, due to the fact that he popularised a whole knew genre of movies that in effect help inspire many people to take up martial arts, an actual life changing decision to a certain extent.

Also I dont know if its simply because the man was very charismatic, or because he has this myth, but a lot of people see him as an inspiration/hero. I see it from boxing forums, to martial art forums, to bodybuilding forums. Guys who simply idolise his myth.

Bruce Lee's impact on martial arts whether its popularity, philosophy, training approach is far greater than simply Ali's impact on boxing. This could be due to the fact that Ali has steep competition and boxing a much older sport, whereas Bruce virtually introduced martial art to us.

Watch the documentary, How Bruce Lee changed the world, it explains how his achievements stretches out from simply a few movies.
