I tought the ref was gonna stop it the next round. Marquez corner should have save him the humiliation. Good call to stop the fight. He lives to fight another day.

Cant believe Lopez just had a life and death fight with such a worn warrior..... He should thank God he didnt have to fight Marquez when Marquez was actually a prime fighter, and he should also be thankful Marquez isnt a natural 126lber. Marquez was busting his ass. Lopez doesnt survive that fight if Marquez wasnt 35 with a career shortening trilogy under him.

Regardless though, Lopez won and he moves on to bigger things.... but I dont think this was a good win for him, to me. This was more of a case of Marquez looking ok early on and then just hitting a wall around the 4th or so, and becoming a punching bag.

Marquez should probably retire... but I know he wont.

you're setting the bar a little high there. Marquez is past his best but he is a certified HOF and an extremely skilled fighter. A good win regardless.

    i agree..

you gotta love rafa's all-out style and gotta-take-more-to-get-one mentality. juanma got rocked a few times i must say...

my heart wants marquez to fight but my mind is favoring juanma. marquez is a warrior. he never came down with all the beating lopez gave him. the first 3 rounds i think was that marquez is a little intimidated. his confidence came up when he hit lopez with a good left hook that staggered lopez. i think there should be a rematch. i think marquez will have the confidence to win the rematch.

Dont know what to tell you Philla, not to me.

Being a great fighter is awsome, and marquez is that. But because of what hes done, not for the fighter he is now. Thats like giving anyone props for beating a great fighter, no matter what the conditions. Thats bs.

Im not going to say it was a worthless win, Im not saying that. Im saying it wasnt that great of a win, to me, considering the trouble Marquez gave him. He was fighting a fighter who was smaller then him, whos had the type of fights that any fighter would be happy even being in big fights after those type of wars, 35 years old, and had fought 6 rounds total in over two years.

That was all known going into this fight, which is why Lopez was the heavy favorite. Im not knocking that, thats part of the sport, the old greats will always be fed to the young stars.... but Lopez was given much more trouble then he should have all things considered, IMO.

However, that can also be attributed to how great Marquez is... that even old, extremely worn, and inactive, he was able to give the young touted prospect some scary moments.

Props to Lopez for having the mental fortitude to withstand the scary moments, and keep applying pressure.... but I dont think many people expected him to almost be derailed by an obviously past it, smaller, inactive Marquez. There was a reason he was a heavy favorite.

    Just IMO

IMO, the fight had nothing to do with confidence, it had to do with Marquez physically hitting a wall... if you rewatch the fight you can tell that Marquez just loses it somewhere a little past his best round, and he simply becomes a punching bag. When a fighter doesnt have it anymore to compete at a high level for a whole fight, it has nothing to do with confidence. Also, I think early on it was more a case of Marquez figuring out the best way to fight Lopez as I think he was thrown off by Lopez's size and strength a bit.

I had a 3 bet parlay tonight -- Johnson over Green, Judah over Matthysse (****ing close one!) and Juanma over Marquez and Juanma's match was the least of my worries out of the 3. I knew he had it in the bag. The 4th round was a bit scary but besides that Lopez handed him his ass. Won $375... easy money.

decent picks..... johnson was a good pick! But you picked 3 favorites jerk off.... so dont go pat yourself on the back.... Judah probably lossed a close one in my opinion and Juanma looked good in a BATTLE.... I know you probably almost pissed yourself when rafa had juanma on ***** street in the 4th and you drank your boy friends "protein shake" while you saw judah get a very close nod!! Then you brag about winning a parlay on ESB after you pick 3 favorites out your ass!! :good

This guy has prefaced about six hundred posts tonight with "I knew Lopez would win but..."

Lopez won and it wasn't that close, but Rafael was fighting really hard and could have put Lopez down at any point. I loved the fight and wouldn't mind another one if no other big fights can materialize.

General consensus was that Lopez was going to win. Lopez showed a lot of room for improvement and almost got his ass knocked out, so all the 'told you so' is unnecessary.

I did not see a fighter being humiliated on that fight. I saw a warrior with a very big heart.
