Lazlo Papp - If he had been allowed to continue his career could of been one of the greats

Charlie Magri had it all except the punch resistance to be a dominant champion.

I feel ashamed for agreeing with you. Hill also fought more rounds in title fights than anyone since Emile Griffith.

Really Johnmaff36? I remember Magri turning pro and bowling over all before him, winning the British & EBU titles (admittedly not much strength in depth at the time) then beating Alfonso (?) Lopez (former light-fly champ iirc) then beating the excellent Santos Laciar at the RAH in '80...

He was expolsive, good agressive skills, could punch, and at the early stages of his career could do 12 at a fair pace...it seemed a cert that he would be a good world champion.

Then, the flaw that had been first hinted at in the Olympics when he was KO'd by the Canadian Ian Clyde re-emerged...he was KO'd by a couple of tough Mexicans Juan Diaz & Jose Torres and the truth was out.

He briefly held the WBC title, lost by a KO in his first defence and leter suffered stoppages to Chitalada & Duke McKenzie.

I definitely believe that if Magri had greater punch resistance he could have been a much more established world champion.

I thought Magri's stamina issues started to emerge circa 82-83...he had been making flyweight since he turned pro in '77 - perhaps he found it difficult to make the weight as the years passed by?

Mark Breland, he never seemed to be in top shape, he also seemed kind of lazy in the ring.

Donald Curry, he had to many amateur fights-over 400, without the ring miles he would've been much better.

I heard/read that Denny Moyer had a lot of bad habits. Better personal discipline might have made him an all time great.

If Danny Lopez had learned to at least spell defense he could have been a very special fighter. His own manager said, "I don't think I ever saw Danny slip a punch."
