Only person on Cain's list worth mentioning is Nogueira and he isn't the same fighter he used to be. He doesn't deserve the number one spot either. I'm sure most would agree Overeem would outstrike Cain and i honestly don't see cain taking overeem out in the groundgame. I still have Fedor at number one btw.
Fedor and Overeem are clearly the top 2 heavyweights in the sport Cain and JDS and Werdoooooooom can squabble between the other top 5 places Its all about assholes and opinions It's good that there are several top guys in contention, unlike in boxing But this joke of a Sherdog list has ZERO credability, influenced by money more than fighters
Your making a logical fallacy here man, false choice. You by default assume some sort of creteria for judging fighters lb for lb value, or weight division value, which we may not all agree upon, and is by no means universal.. It seems by your own logic, the only way a fighter could possibly be skilled, or ranked is if they are already taking part in the UFC. Like Beebs pointed out, its not so clear that we are able to judge where fighters should be ranked when comparing different orgs that don't compete with one another.. Also. You discredit the idea that guys with losses are any good in the first place when they leave the UFC, which is some sort of odd qualitative double standard. A guy can be a legit champ in the UFC, or contender, then if they lose, or win and leave the UFC, earning a win over these guys all of a sudden means nothing. Where if they were in the UFC, they would likely be two wins away from a title match themselves.. You are assigning some value, or a diminished value for fighters who leave, or are cut by the UFC. When the UFC takes into account more than a fighters, fighting ability, but also marketability, and cost when making such decisions. You should only take into consideration a fighters fighting ability when passing judgement. Because they are cut could be the result of contract negotiations, movie negotiations, losses, bad relationships etc, that may have nothing to do with fight performance, or fighting ability.
Your stuck dude. Lets say Fedor hadn't lost, what would you say about Werdum? Be honest.. Would you say he was just some dude who couldn't cut it in the UFC, so he was ****, or would you look at his bjj credentials and say he was a legit fighter to compete against Fedor? The only way to please people like you is to have guys join the UFC, to compete with their fighters.. This is the false dilemma I'm talking about.
That is a baseless claim. I don't care what organization they fight in. If Fedor beats Werdum, he's back on top. If Fedor can't get a rematch with Werdum, be it Werdum's injury or whatever, a couple high profile wins can get him back. None of this requires going to the UFC. Overeem could leap to 5 or 6 with a win over Silva. Overeem could get in the running for the top spot with a win over Fedor. If Overeem defeats Werdum and Fedor, he's got the top spot without ever fighting for the UFC.
Right on, I see you actually ranked Werdum highly. My mistake. You came off as a Sherdogger at first. I understand how you ranked.. The thing with Overeem, you don't seem to give him any sort of credentials outside of what he has done in MMA. When we are judging fighters objectively, you probably shouldn't purely judge what they have done in MMA.. Just as Werdum is extremely good in BJJ, you know this in MMA, but many don't transfer his success outside of MMA to MMA, which they probably should.. You don't know what sort of animal Werdum is inside of MMA, without knowing who he is outside of MMA.. The same holds for Overeem. What we know inside of MMA, vs what we know about his striking in K1, are two, entirely different things. His success in K1 should mean at least something in MMA. That he was able to manhandle a 280 lb man should mean something. That he has incredible gnp from side mount should mean something, and it all does. But what isn't accounted for in general about Overeem is his success in K1, and how dangerous his standup actually is.
It's alright. It happens. I recognize Overeem's potential. Overeem just hasn't beaten anyone to justify my moving him to a higher ranking on my list. Overeem appears to have the goods to be the best in the world. I wouldn't take anyone over him and feel certain about it. Overeem just lacks the resume.
Inactive, not retired. He last fought on American soil & TV about two years ago (and has fought twice since: once in Japan and once in Australia).
Well he should be in this list because he would give anyone of these guys a serious challenge. BTW the list should be: Fedor - So what?? Hes lost once and Frankly hes the only one deserving as #1 Cain - You beat the mythical man, you deserve #2. Werdum - Ok he beat Fedor, but honestly hed lose in a rematch and against 6 others in this list. Overeem - An enigma but very impressive JDS - Might be the next one to fall but also might be the next champ. Barnett - Can beat anyone on this list. Carwin - Had Lesnar Koed more impressively than Cain but ref didnt want fight stopped. Brock - One more shot before he disappear from the list Rogers - I actually think this guy is good but faced two tough fights in a row Silva - beating Andrei get him in
