This is all a myth. Ray's eye was never hurt because of his firm belief in eye protection. This content is protected ...Hagler was robbed! ...Hagler was robbed!
:good:good:good I think that if Leonard had to fight his was through a tough division like Hagler did to get his shots, then he would not be nearly as great as his punch resistance would of been shot. Same as if he kept of fighting and did not have all the retirements, candle burnt bright but could not burn that long. I think he was lucky to be in the postion he was, as he was a great fighter capable of great things for a few years then he would of been finished and would be made to look crap, by the best out there. Leonard was ko'd by (past prime) (feather fisted) Comacho , floored by a jab FFS, this should not happen to a great boxer like Leonard. He could not of had heaps of fights like the old timers, but could beat them , as he was a complete boxer with skill , athlitic and heart.
I don't think it is far fetched to say Hearns might have been better than Ray. He beat Virgil Hill and dominated him the same year Ray was demolished by Norris. He beat Cuevas and Benitez and stopped Duran. The knock against Hearns was he lost his two biggest fights, but the wins are there to compete with anything Ray ever did.
Because Ray did not box at all in the first fight, and when he boxed and fought his fight he won. He admitted to fighting Duran's fight. He also beat Duran better than Duran beat him. Ray would have beaten Duran 10 out of 10 times after the first fight, and the fact Duran lost to Benitez and Hearns later proves that Duran did not deal well with speed.
No.It proves Duran was past his prime and fighting well above his best weight. What is hilarious is that even though Duran is known as king of the excuse makers,it's Leonard's fans that keep making the old "Ray didn't fight his fight" excuse when he lost to Duran.
