He ain't just a bully he likes to fight and fights back when hurt. He doesn't need to be so reckless but he's one of them power punchers who just wants to hurt his man one way or another and doesn't fear the consequences. I think he's a great champion and i hope to see him vs Gamboa next year because it will be special fight..while it lasts.

 

Good win, but he had huge physical advantages and Marquez likely fought one handed for large parts, still landed plenty and hurt Lopez badly at one point.

On that basis I take Gamboa over Lopez for sure.

 

Gamboa one of the most protected fighters outhere and he makes far too many defensive mistakes. JuanMA puts Gamboa :dead

 

Even when he was on wobbly legs, he kept asking Marquez to keep coming at him. If he's going to lose, he wants it happen going out on his shield. :kenny

 

Lopez proved his chin last night, Marquez can bang and he took his best shots without even be close to going down. Gamboa's chin is still up for dispute. I think Lopez KO's Gamboa if they fight

He was hurt, pretty badly, and Marquez was a MUCH smaller guy.

 

Juanma is an outstanding boxer ... he out boxed a legend last night and his combinations were excellent... ive always been a huge fan of this guy and last night only endorsed that fact ! ...full respect for Marquez a true warrior too !

Last night was superb everything thats great about this sport of ours was summed up in those rounds last night...

 

JuanMa needs a lot of fine tuning. He has too many defensive flaws to have much longevity at the top. But boy is he exciting. I think he tries to imitate Tito far to much, you can tell that from his "hop and step". He was to right hook happy, should've closed the distance faster being the bigger man and brought that straight left over much more. Great showing from Rafa, especially seeing as he was fighting with effectively one arm through most of the bout. You could tell if he didn't have so many miles on him, he would destroyed JuanMa. I think Lopez could do with a better trainer.

Gamboa vs. Lopez has to happen sooner rather then later. Can't believe Arum would risk either of them getting knocked off, as they're both very vulnerable. What a fight that will be.

 

His resilience when he's put onto ****** Boulevard is very impressive. Great mental strength shown, not only when he's hurt but he keeps on coming forward and persevering even if his opponent doesn't show signs of being blown away by his power

 

P4P toper 5-er Gamboa will do bad things with this man.

Juan could have been a fighter of Gamboa's level, no chance of hell of that following his poor development over the past few years.

He could have been an absolute beast throwing 125 punches a round, he isn't.

His technical ability isn't far removed from when he was first emerging either, a waste in the case of a fighter with such great coordination.

Who is the guys trainer?

 

I didn't enjoy seeing Marquez getting mugged like that, Lopez was much bigger, stonger, fitter held all the cards. The ref stepped in at the wrong time when Lopez was hurt and gave him a breather.

Tony Weaks was far to visible and getting involved too often. Lopez instinctively lent on Marquez has he kept coming in low head down.

Bring on Gamboa

 

Ya he did good alright, but not great. Marquez was a decent puncher in bantam alright, but I don't think he's that powerful at featherweight. He caught Lopez with some beautiful shots, and was outboxing him I think for some of the early rounds. After the 4th I think Lopez just realized he could take what Marquez could throw at him, and walked him down and battered him.

I wish Arum wasn't able to freeze the other top guys out of the division, I'd love to see John especially in with Lopez. That would be a genuine test of his ability.

Until Lopez and Gamboa face Caballero and John the whole thing is a ****in farce. Those two are just going for the Top Rank Featherweight title, and keeping the other guys out of the game.

 

This. If they want Lopez-Gamboa to be a mega fight they need to beat these two first.

 

Totally agree , that was a seriously impressive show , even though Marquez is clearly past his best it was still impressive !!!
