This is a labour of love by the looks of it - i know there's going to be some on here who will be really happy to see this - so to all those interested - enjoy http://www.billymiske.com/ :good
Miske is one oif my favourite fighters. If ever there was a fighter whose life would make a good subject for a film.
found this too http://www.squidoo.com/billymiske heart rending stuff - damn what a brave guy and a credit to his wife and kids too - a hero plain and simple - Billy Miske needs to get some respect won back - this was a fighter in every sense of th word
The fascinating thing about Miske is that when he was terminaly ill, he totaly re-invented his style. He converted himself from a slick boxer to a knockout artist!
Here's an article I came across about a superb result over Jack Dillon http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9902E2DF173AE433A25754C1A9679C946696D6CF going to keep digging on Billy - i really think most people see him as just a footnote to the career of Jack Dempsey and is usually used as an example of the poor level of Jack's opponents - Billy Miske was a tremendous fighter and badly needs to get his dues
If Billy Miske had lived longer in good health, he might well have established a comanding legacy. This is a guy who had everything on paper. He could box. He could punch. He could finish. He had intangibles. How many fighters could have done what he did while terminaly ill?
I've had a biography on him completed now now for at least six months. I'm still trying to land a publisher for it though. It's a sloooooooooooooow process.
He's just gotten a worthy entry into the IBHOF, so he's getting newly established credit and recognition. If a movie ever comes out of it, that induction is as likely an impetus as any. Staggering, that in 105 fights, only a peak Dempsey was able to drop and stop him.
Hello Clay, you are a diamond Clay - you are doing a great service for all these great fighters - let me know the second it's published and I'll be on it in a flash - your book on Sam was one of the best I've ever read - can't wait for the book on Billy - I imagine it will be something of a tear jerky - we gotta keep this guys spirit alive - the man was and is a legend in my eyes :good
didn't know until you told me Duo - awesome news that he made it in :happy score one for Billy - damn it's sad that he was lost so young
If ever there has been a drama begging to be written about a fighter, it is the heart warming story of billy Miske..A couple of years ago on TV there was a mini bio about this utterly amazing fighter, and human being ,Billy Miske..What a movie that would make for the general public to see, and good luck to you Cmoyle, in this endeavor to complete your mission....
i assume Miske still has family around (well not family that knew him..but you know)..they should be made aware of that site.
Couldn't tell for sure but i think the site may have been set up by his daughter initially but I think she may have passed away in 2006 according to the site - but yeah the extended family should be well proud of Billy
