Granted rees won the fight against m'baye but what did he do to warrant a world title fight the best opponent on his record was 14-2 martin watson who rees beat in a 6 rounder is this a good example of one of the biggest problems with boxing at the moment (the terrible ranking system)

What happened was Frank Wanker was trying to tempt Ricky Hatton back after Ricky left Warren with a fight between Mbaye who Warren had just signed, Hatton wasnt interested in fighting Mbayw, Then towards the end of Mbayes contract Frank Warren made a match with Gavin Rees knowing Rees would win and his contract with Mbaye was over.

Gavine Rees then got knocked out by Kotelnik in his first defence, Kotelnik defended the title against Maidana, And he lost the title to Khan.

    :patsch

    He won WBA title mate

He had a stop start career...but was undefeated and a talent. M'Baye had a few defences on undercards of Warren Bills and luckily for Rees Warren put him in with M'Baye who was riding luck before he met Rees...Rees pounced on the opportunity.

It was actually the WBA :hey

From memory Warren signed M'Baye as he was the mando for Hatton's WBA title before he moved up to 147 to face Collazo..... by the time Hatton moved back down he'd given up on alphabets so M'Baye wasn't any use to him any longer.

Rees isn't everyone's cup of tea as a fighter but credit where credit's due :yep

 I guess it was just very easy to assume it was the WBO. Sorry, my mistake. All credit to Rees since it was the WBA :-(

I can't stand the cocky midget.

That Watto fella, could of beat him if he just believed in himself from early on in the fight.

To be fair he had done about the same if not more than Khan when he got his shot. At least Rees had some fights at the weight b4 he got the shot. The WBA is the worst of the main 4 alphabets.
