    Are the WBC fairdinkum?

Pascal and Hopkins will fight for the Diamond Belt in their december match-up. Geez, I hope a better BHop turns up than the one that put on the snoozefest with Roy!

'World light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal of Canada is scheduled to make a voluntary defense against former middleweight world champion Bernard Hopkins of the United States. Because of the extreme interest and significance of the fight in Canada – promoter Yvon Michel said that all 16,331 available tickets sold out in 48 hours – as well as the legendary status of Hopkins.

The Diamond Belt is reserved for fights between elite champions. The only one previously approved was for the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto fight'.

I've always been a firm believer that Hopkin's career at light heavyweight has been grossly exaggerated* and a younger, hungrier fighter will expose him. I'd also add to the mix that this is the first time in a loooong time Hopkins has fought overseas in a hostile crowd, and Pascal's boxing skills are hugely underrated.

*This is my rationale from a previous post, since I usually cop alot of flak for dare mentioning anything bad against the god Hopkins:

RJJ: Can we agree he has slid down alot quicker than Hopkins? With the exception of Lacey, RJJ hasn't looked good in any of his fights since Trinidad (and he was a blown up welter coming out of retirement), and has fought very questionable fighters since his comeback. Calzaghe dominated him after round one in 08 and was knocked out effortlessly in the first round by Green in 09.

Ornelas: Had only just moved up from middleweight. Is a decent B class fighter who lost to the best B class fighters he's faced i.e. Soliman and Rubio

Pavlik: Had only just moved up from middleweight. Very good wins against Taylor, and decent wins against B classers Lockett, Rubio, and Miranda. Obviously too small for light heavy and was unable to impose his usualy punching power. Has the height, but doesn't have the build like Hopkins. This was also two years ago

Calzaghe: Just moved up from supermiddleweight. Beat hopkins on his home turf and essentially confused him with his lateral movement and high workrate. Was too big for Hopkins to bully around in the ring.

Wright: A natural junior middleweight, who had just moved into middleweight. Far too small for light heavy and Hopkins took advantage to put a name on his resume. Was dominated by Williams in his last fight.

Tarver: Claim to fame KO RJJ, a very sound fighter with good wins on his resume, but even though he did manage to beat Johnson in the rematch, has not really impressed since that win and has been in decline. I am tempted to give Hopkins a pass since he himself had only just moved up from middleweight, but obviously from all the other alphabet champions around at the time Tarver was the easiest option...I would have even accepted Silvio Branco. This was four years ago.

BUT when you consider Bhop's age when he did this it is just incredible do you not agree ? I love Hopkins and i expect this to be his last fight. Pascal should beat him on points imo.

I hope Pascal KTFO of Hopkins, Borenard Hopkins is one boring arse fighter who when runs into trouble acts like a complete twat , to see him cope out like that V Calzaghe instead of taking his beating like a man was the last straw , the Jones fight just confirmed what i already knew . Pascal will attempt to make a fight out of it but Hopkins will biotch out of combat and use every trick (legal or otherwise) to survive . what weight is this fight at ? ie has Hopkins dragged Jean up 10lbs for it like he usually does ?

:admin He only dragged Pascal up 7lbs ? he's slipping Frankie . I bet you Hopkins comes in at around 172-174 lbs .

What ? Do you not follow boxing ?

Pascal has been fighting at 175 for a while now and is the Ring Mag champ at 175. Bhop is fighting the "man" at 175 and you are criticising Hopkins for this ?
