I think highly of Vlad at this point in time is an excellent fighter and one of the best Big men ever, however the slick and crafty JJW would be a few degrees above anything he has ever faced. Because of Walcotts being content to box and wait for the counter he may find himself behind Vlad's reach for a while and that could be a dangerous pattern for the right hand rocket but JJW had the tricky right hand and hook and could stun or drop Vlad with a pin point counter. Vlad could get up and get aggressive but has to careful because Walcott could punch with both hands.

I could see a few scenario's, one would be Walcott being slick and greasy and frustrating Vlad who gets dropped coming in and hurt again late in the fight Walcott UD

I could see Vlad keeping JJW at bay do to his size, reach and power and winning a UD

I could see either man landing a KO punch and winning by KO

Usual predictable bull**** I see :patsch

This one doesn't come down to size at all. I wouldn't like to pick a winner but it'd be a hard fought contest. If I had to pick a winner it'd be Walcott purely because of WALDOS lack of defense to the left hook and glass chin but if it went to the distance it could go either way. To dismiss Walcott in this is idiotic.

Walcott has a very live shot here imo , his slick counters could give Wlad all sorts of grief, and Joe slipped jabs very well, once in range he might panic the giant into mistakes. Both have enough power to end it ,but Walcott is trickier, and the more naturally skilled fighter imo,Wlad does things by numbers, disrupt his pattern and things could go awry for him.

Abe Simon was a big man with limited skills. He Ko'd Walcott with a hook.

If you had some real points you would be a good poster. But as we know your motivated by hate in this topic. Allow me to illustrate the facts.

Wlad lacks defense? Do you even watch boxing. Sure, all of Wlad's opponents get past his jab, and hit him or counter with ease. NOT.

On film Walcott is not aggressive vs punchers. Even Rex Lanye had him on the run.

As for glass chins, Walcott was KO'd more often than Wlad was, and by far lesser punchers than Brewster or Sanders. Walcott also lost 18 times, and not all of those fights were against Marciano, Charles or Louis.

-Walcott at his best was only KOed by all time great Champions Louis and Maricano. Much better fighters than Brewster or Sanders. You can't hold his loses against him when he was a starving, untrained dock worker. That is just idoitic. Its as bad as constantly bringing up Wlad's loses before Steward showed him the way.

YOu can't have it both ways, otherwise your just as bad as someone like Fightight Weight.

yeah, i think the thread is starting to lead to resume comparison and not h2h (the opposite problem as the foreman vs lennox).

a peak walcott would trouble ANY heavy in history. a post prime but still brilliant louis was held to the wire by walcott...many had jersey joe winning. sure, joe lost the return but EVERYONE lost the return to louis

walcott was able to dominate rocky before the KO and knock out charles (albeit on his third try). walcott's record against all time great heavies is VERY solid. we have a pretty good idea how he could handle himself against skilled boxer-punchers, brawlers, and technicians.

wlad himself presents a unique challenge and i think he would scrap it but by no means should walcott be discounted by size, early career losses and knockouts. same courtesy as extended to wlad (word mongoose!)

For start you have to consider how very different the eras where a few decades ago; heavyweights in the fifties, rough n' ready at 190-210lbs, they were all risk-takers who'd fight till the last minute. If you contrast the bigger men of today - cautious, jabbing and clinching - the fighting is very different.

This is not necessarily to insinuate the inferiority of today’s fighters, but you have to consider these things. Walcott's record for instance, desperate circumstances aside, would be much less patchy if he was given these tall jabbers to feast on with angles and seductive pot-shots. Guys like Rex Layne- put the pressure on, don't touch the brakes - that was a good way to hustle Walcott on a lazy night. That would not happen today, and nobody would outbox Joe.

A fight between Wald is very interesting; a question of who could solidify their game plan. The problems for Walcott are apparent to start with but that sneaky, looping right would not agree with Wlad's palette. Aside from his 'disaster moments' nobody had really took Dr Steel Hammer out of his comfort zone, but if any one heavyweight could successfully play possum Ted Spoon would have to give that honour to Walcott.

Perhaps Wald, given his current consistency, deserves the nod, escaping a few knockdowns along the way to take a close unanimous decision, but Walcott could easily snatch this one.

Pretty much my view on things, Ted.

I must say, though, Walcott never dealt with anybody with the tools of WK. I think WK deserves the nod because he can show Walcott something he never, ever came close to seeing. Wlad has fought slick fighters: Not Walcott slick, mind you, but he has been there.

Just my 2 cents, fantastic post btw.

Walcott was not an easy fighter to KO by any means.

He fought the Earnie Shavers and Mac Fosters of his era for practice!

Do you want to compare and contrast the KO % of the 40's and 50's guys you mentioned vs the punchers Wlad fought? I think not!

Sure Walcott fought Louis and Marciano. Yes they were punchers! What happened? Walcott did not win a match, and was Ko'd 3 times. Neither Marciano nor Louis had the range, height, footwork, and size of Wlad. Fox Ko'd Walcott too. So did Simon and Ettore:deal Seems like Walcott has an issue with punchers, and not all of the guys were skilled.

Wlad owns smaller fighters who are not aggressive. The ones who try to attack quickly go gun shy as soon as Wlad lands his cross. All you need to know is Layne, who might not be top ten today at heavyweight chased Walcott and made him gun shy.

I think you should read more reports and get a better understanding of how styles make fights before attempting to use statistics to make a case. Take Ray for example. I can only count one top ten guy he Ko'd. Was he a great puncher, or did he just blow out lower level guys?

Or how about Baski? A big puncher you say? Baski only had 29 ko's in 72 fights. Shkor only had 22 Ko's in 53 fights and has a joruneyman like ring record. These are the guys you are tying to build into big punchers? Ugh. Again, I simply do not think you research or think about what you are posting at times.

Because everyone fought each other instead of padding their records?

Not to mention that KO PCT is just a stat without context. Think of how easy it is to get a stoppage today.
