He was fighting British and European level CWs for years. His CW career is ridiculously overrated.

I never said Haye was an ATG CW. I just said he fought at world-level for years before he moved up.

He fought Hurov in '05 who was a world title challenger prior and he fought Fragomeni in '06 who briefly held a world title. He finished at CW with Enzo in '08.

You all get lost in hate for Haye and like to cloud the issue in hand. My entire point was that he has spent more of his career as an elite fighter than Chagaev, and he has done it with style. People around here are very quick to build up the likes of Chagaev who has a poorer resume and has done little to earn genuine respect other than let Wlad punch him in the face for 9 boring rounds.

Chagaev has earned more respect than Haye even before he turned pro by winning 2 World Amateur Championships and beating Felix Savon a couple of times.

Great point. I imagine you're a huge fan of Audley Harrison also. :good

I must have missed his second WC gold also. When was that?

The first one was in 1997 when he beat Felix Savon in the final.

Sorry, you're right. I was actually thinking that was his win but forgot about Ireland. I had both events mixed together in my head. I also forgot about the pro-amateur debacle entirely. I remember the Hungary one being a weak decision. A close win over Savon in the Amatuers definitely isn't enough to make up for his weak HW resume. People also seem totally fine with the awful guys he fought after winning the title. I will never understand how you can build him up and tear down Haye at the same time.

I never built him up but I thought "the likes of Chagaev" comment was definitely out of line as he is a tough and skillfull boxer.

Haye actually said that he was never going to get into the ring with Harrison. He flipped on every promise he made. The man is a fraud.

Don't be so melodramatic. Boxing is a business. Wlad made a horrible offer that made no financial sense, Haye made a counter offer that made marginally more sense, Wlad walked away and fought Peter. Wlad then made BS youtube videos and cried about being ducked. Very lame. Haye made the biggest money fight he could instead and that was Harrison.

Wlad would never have said he wouldn't fight Chisora as, like most of the world, he had no idea who he was until the fight was in negotiations.

I see him as a massive disappointment. A poorly conditioned fighter who doesn't box smart and has only a couple of close decision wins as the cream on top of a very poor resume. Just my opinion.

Also, my original point was not to say he is a bad fighter. I was calling out the people on here for saying Haye's resume is weak when it is comparable or better than the likes of Chagaev. I also took issue with people saying he's a blown up CW when Haye's a naturally bigger man than Chagaev, just in very good shape.

Just realised you're saying Haye's CW record is irrelevant but then saying Chagaev's controversial amatuer win at the same weight is in some way all-telling. Seems awfully strange for a guy who's not building up Chagaev and tearing down Haye.

I said Haye's CW career is very overrated. He was a champion for less than 4 months with 2 world title fights.

And yes, Chagaev's wins over Savon are a testament to his boxing skill.

Again, if you have to go back to the amatuers to build up a guy, maybe he's not that special a pro. Audley Harrison was a pretty good amatuer too. Guess you'll be buying the fight Saturday night then.

Overrated Haye has surpassed Chagaev at this point.

Good point. Time to walk away.
