I might agree on Locche at number 1, purely on the defensive aspect, i think his DEFENSE was slightly better than Canto's. His upper body movement was immense, one thing i think that gives him the edge on his rivals here is his abillity to block body shots, he just seemed to deflect all of them, amazing when properly considered on this subject. I also wouldnt argue on Pep up there though, forget the technical arguments or whatever, if an argument is based on effectiveness then he is hard to top imo, Pernell Whitaker is strong in that way also. For textbook defense, Winky Wright must be one of the finest at his best imo, but not as great a boxer when other aspects are weighed in at all imo.

Byrd lacked any kind of caginess to his game and was an ordinary athlete at best... truly crappy fighter who wouldnt have made the top 500 in any other weight division

McGirt, Eubank, Sasakul and even Pacquiao were all ten times more technically apt with their upperbody movement

I´d like to throw in someone I probably get lynched for ... Sven Ottke. He was very good defensivly and hard to tag clean, mostly because he was out of range most of the time due to his exceptional judge of distance and very good footwork - the only things he really did above average too.

He was also hard to tag clean because he'd complain and you'd cop a warning from his referee for hitting him.

From 1990 it's Whitaker and Mayweather.

    Nobody else really matters.
