Since this is classic, I have some thoughts on the up coming Paq/Margarito bout and patterns I see developing ...

Is there anyone other than me that sees Paq as overconfident, distracted, a bit long in the tooth and possibly ripe for an upset ... I know 24/7 is pitchingthis angle to sell the fight but the facts are the facts .. he is 32, he is a much smaller man counting on speed and conditioning, he is all over the place and he is not in the best of shape or focused as he has been in the past ...

I think Mararito is a blatent liar but he seems to be in incredible condition and prepared to fight the fight of his life .. he wil be 2o pounds heavier in the ring tht night and if Manny does not get him out early it will be a nasty fight ..

You have to favor Paq with his speed but if he keeps this up his days are numbered ... it can happen Sat night ..

I don't think much of the opinion that this isn't a risky or challenging fight for Pacquiao even under the assumption that he's in perfect condition and focus and the portrayal that he isn't is just a media hype angle. I'm sure there's some truth in him being distracted or overconfident, as I think it comes with the territory of super-stardom and the kind of success he's had. I also think whereas Margarito was getting historically overrated by some before the Mosley fight, he's now underrated as a fighter based more on dislike of him than on what he actually is. I think this could not only be competitive, but has the ingredients to be a ring classic and possibly a big upset. Then again, it's Pacquiao so he might make me look stupid and pitch a shutout followed by a terrifyingly bad concert so who the **** knows. End ramble.

I agree, I 've never liked the idea of this fight even when Pac said 2 years ago that he wanted to fight Margo, all credit to him mind, but it's got all the makings of a "Clubber Laing" feel too it. Margo was a weight ravaged wreck against Mosley but what you see know is a much bigger stronger Cotto fight version & regardless of Pac's speed he's going to get hit plenty & hurt & if he takes a breather in the middle of each round as he likes to do then Margo's going to be all over him & in the obvious subsiquent shootout i'll not be suprised to see pac get TKO'd. It goes without saying that his distractions are obvious what with being a people's representative & very much in public demand even though pac is the consumate pro i still think that this is one step beyond & what with Margo being handed this lifeline then you are going to see him pursue Pac as he did Cotto & unless Pac can somehow KO Margo then i see a subsquent beatdown as Pac will engage Margo in a tear-up & pay for the privalige. He's got to be 100%+ focused & on his toes 24/7 anything else & he's shipping damage & all this nonsense about Margo being slow is just that. I'am a big fan of margo & Pac but for me this is the most dangerous adversary he could have ever faced & we shall see sat night..............

The Clubber Lang analogy is brilliant ... one guy is living in the lap of luxury and the other is one nasty, pissed off dude ..

I think this fight is as difficult as Pac wants to make it. I don't think Margarito has the power to turn this fight with one shot. Pac has all the elements (and maybe more) that Mosley gave Margo hell with, namely speed of hand and foot. It hasn't been Pac's nature, but if he had to, I think he could box and cruise to a decision. Guys who stand in front of Margo and/or don't have the power to keep him off them are in trouble with Margo. I see Pac potentially being distracted and not as focused, I just don't think Margo is the guy to capitalize on it.

Mosley's physical strength and the ability to clinch and hold Margo whenever he wanted to seemed to me to play a huge role in that fight and Pac is not a clincher and I really, really don't believe he has the strength to do what Mosley did, in that respect.

  8. I'm not confident putting money on Pacquaio. Margerito a large welterweight has that fearless way of moving forward and getting to his target which doesn't suit pac. Who cares if Cotto out boxed him, he lost by gettting his ass kicked. Who cares Clottey did the same, he got his arse kicked too. And mosley is one of the most pure fighters of the past generation and loves a fight enough to dethrone prime ODLH.

The past few fights of his have given him a invincible persona but firstly we know pacquaio has just had a string of good fights, his history shows that he can get his arse kicked by a fighter and Margerito is the perfect fighter to challange him.

Yeah, he could pretty much neutralize Margarito's assault because he's so damn strong.
and there's no way IMO that pac would end the fight like Mosley did.. Mosley hits much harder

If Pacquiao loses to Margarito, it would be a bit of a mess to be honest as Margarito should not be on his level at this point. Historically it would look bad on Pacquiao at welterweight as Margarito has been proven to be a rather limited opponent. A win for Margarito would be great obviously but his "role", as confirmed by the Mosley pasting, is basically to separate the best from the rest. He isn't truly a great fighter himself, but the ones that beat him could very well go onto become great or were already great.

The recent welterweight era has in my opinion proven to be a huge disappointment as a former super featherweight such as Pacquiao took out the best of them with relative ease, and I see him taking out Margarito as well. A Margarito win would be a little too late to "clean up" the image of an ancient Mosley brutalizing Margarito, Margarito breaking down Cotto and Pacquiao beating on Cotto and Clottey.

Anyone buying into is very gullable, its what they want you to believe so you think its a competitive fight. Pacquaio will be Pacquaio, Margarito will be Margarito except his lack of cast gloves and inactivity may make him worse

Lets look at Margarito - slow, being outboxed early by Clottey, Cotto and Mosley except Mosley dominated every round and KO'd him. Isn't Pacquaio supposed to be better than a 2008 Mosley? Now Margarito is older slower and looked worse than ever in his last fight. On the plus side Marg is bigger and stronger with a better engine than anyone Pacs faced so that adds some interest for it to me

Like Freddy Roach said 'I saw your last 2 fights'

so Margarito is no great, but it takes a great to beat him? He must be pretty good then. I think it all depends on what he has left after taking a terrible beating against Mosely. Cotto never looked the same after the beasting he took from the Tornado, maybe the same is true here. If not, trouble for Pacman. He may find that Antonio is the Pacman in this fight as he eats punches and never lets up till he wins. :toney

I like Roach, but the more he gets airtime, the more he spouts off and seems he should be named Freddy Mayweather, the ******* child of the Mayweater clan.:bart

It doesn't take a great to beat him. He's one-dimensional so anyone who can either match his physicality or outbox him over 12 can beat him. But he finds out the truth about hyped fighters like Cotto and Clottey to lesser extent. The same goes to Pacquiao at welterweight. If he is truly the goods, he should beat Margarito. If he isn't, he loses.

Margarito reminds me of a 1950's and 60's welterweight contender named Gaspar Ortega.
