They asked him what his best fight was and he said Buster Douglas and Razor Ruddock, because it was give and take. That doesn't mean he was in peak form against those guys.

Mike was always terrified of Buster. He was frozen a little but Buster was in tears before the bout. His mind was everywhere but the fight.

Mike would not have stood a chance in a rematch.

    300lb Buster spanks Mike.

I think that one is probably his best and most explosive.

his systematic, callous beating of tyrell biggs always ranks as the ultimate expression of controlled brutality, that truly was a violent man expressing himself in a visual painting of artistic infliction of pain....also the holmes fight......

i know whayt tyson menay though, his blow out wins werent his best fights, the ones where he had to ,look inward were, hence his pick of douglas and ruddock

I can kinda see where he is coming from, in terms of, whilst he lost the fight, he was in a grueling fight before losing it, one which he could of quit, been taken out earlier, so he did show a degree of metal to stay in there that long.

Buster had real skills. He could actually throw good compos and uppercuts, unlike today's robots.

BTW, I went back and watched the Douglas fight a while back, something I noticed that I hadn't noticed before, its not so much that Mike wasn't throwing, even though he wasn't, its that he was looking for one punch, a counter specifically, but because Douglas was pecking and pocking at Mike, upsetting Mike's rhythm when he was waiting, trying to time Douglas for that counter, he was not able to get off as consistently as he would of liked, also, what Douglas did effectively was, he would change the rhythm of WHEN! he jabbed, so that also made it difficult for Tyson to time a counter.

I think Mike may have had conditioning problems to a degree, but he did not fight the right fight either imo.

That was never the best of Mike in the ring that night. With the right conditioning, and mental state Mike would waste Buster Douglas most nights.

Buster was at his worst that night. He had a breakdown before the fight and was in tears. He had all sorts of family problems and out of the ring issues to the point he did not care about the fight.

Tyson would never beat a Prime focused Douglas.

    Spot on:good

Buster was absolutly superb from the 1st ring a ding with his fitness/focus & tactics & an absolutely masterful display of boxing by him & the Douglas of the Tyson fight would have seen off the Klit's without too much bother IMO & that Tokyo version of Douglas would always have had Mike's number regardless & i'am a Tyson fan.

    :thumbsup

It was, but it does beg the question, how much did Tyson cooperate with what Douglas was trying to do? I mean had Tyson come out the blocks the way he did against Alex Stewart, might Douglas have had the same impact? possibly when Mike got tired yes, but would he of been able to withstand that intense pressure, that kinda early onslaught? food for thought at least.

What we saw in the fight was a 1st in that Douglas came out the aggressor, circling then ramming out that jab & slamming in right hands & thats not something or any of us especially Tyson had ever seen/experienced or expected & especially from Douglas. Mike was fast out of the blocks but as you pointed out earlier he was just trying to unload the big one so he could get back to ****ing another 100 hookers before he flew home. Yeh there was no real head/upperbody movement from Tyson combined with the shock of the early power & speed of combo's that Douglas let fly must have ****ed Mike up along with that useless/clueless corner of his & it stunned all of us watching this so called mis-match. I just think of this fight as a perfect storm scenario but it's still a maybe in my eyes if any version of Tyson could have defeated that one & only version of Douglas that night.

Tyson stated his reasons for thinking The Douglas fight was his best was because The Measure of Man is in how much pain he can take!

I, like you all, do not agree that the Douglas fight was his best, but the reason Tyson gives for his thinking, is a Plausible one!

Tyson took a beating & half that night, yet he fought & fought!

And lost, thats the problem with that that only counts when you win, this is no rocky **** where a contender can hang in there with ko artist or great champion. like if tyson would have ko'd buster then buster could say yeah this was my best fight look what i made mike go through. Mike got beaten around by a journeyman who peaked that night. his best fight was spinks, and when it is about overcoming the struggle and coming out on top its the razorfight nog douglas.
