Gil Clancey thought so too. I still hope Margarito wins though. I like his style of fighting and his fearlessness in picking opponants. :good

The loading of gloves and general classlessness as seen recently tends to put people off though.

For awhile I was thinking that between Pacquiao's congressional responsibilities and him consquently not wanting to fully train as a point towards Pacquiao not really wanting to be where he is at right now...I thought that Margarito did have a realistic shot at upsetting Pacquiao. But not anymore... Dwyer of gambler's advisory made several good points re why he thought Margarito would win due to his pressure, thereby putting Pacquiao on his backfoot, limiting his offensive rythym and spacing. (Dwyer sees a 6-7th round stoppage I believe for Margarito)
I respectfully disagree...I think Margarito will fight his usual 'all in' style and it will totally negate the advantages of his height and reach. Pacquiao does have some trouble when being put on the backfoot, but he also is much quicker than Margarito, and the price for coming right at Pacquiao is a very steep one. Pac shouldn't have a problem of getting out of the way of Margarito's rushes and setting for the straight left/right hookercut shot. I think that Pac is not quite the fighter he was when he rolled off the line to fight DeLaHoya, he was more cognizant of footwork and spacing, and he looked faster...but now it appears, he is thicker, still very fast, and is hitting harder. I think he is maturing into his bigger weight class. Dwyer said Pacquiao is still one handed, here I strongly disagree too...Pac's right hand hook is much improved. Anyone weighing in the neighborhood of 147lbs had better respect Pacquiao's ability to hurt them.
I like Pacquiao to hurt Margarito to the body early and win by KO in 5-6 rounds. Too much speed and power, in spite of being outweighed 10-15 lbs.
Pacquiao KO in six, and it's not even close.

I think he has more fans than people think and some hate him also due to his asskicking of Cotto and the fact that he was so avoided in the mid 00's. But the fact is that he alone fought them all and tried to fight Mayweather. He fought, while undefeated Cintron, Williams, Cotto. He fought Mosely and now Pacquioa. The man is a fighter and hides behind no excuses to duck someone. And unlike his conquere Mosely who for some reason gave up and turned tail midway thru the second rd. against Mayw. Margarito will fight to the death.I respect that. And as for the lioaded gloves, noone knows beyond the Mosely, just as noone knows weather Pac took steroids, although they know Mosely did, and he was forgiven (although after Marg, Pac IS my fav. current fighter) I just don't see how anyone could not be excited about this fight. If the Margarito of the Cotto fight shows up. it could be one of the great ones. I got the beeer, I'll get the Skyline and Grippo's and hopefully I'll get a great fight like I did 28 years earlier to the date with Pryor-Arguelo and Mancini-Kim. 28 years later and still hearing Larry Merchant. I wish it was Barry and Ray instead of the always objective Jim Limpley and of course Hearns' trainer though. I love BOXING at it's most violent and taxing and I hope to see a classic. Give me Duran, Fletcher, Pintor, Bennie, Frazier, Margarito, Pacquioa and the fighters anyday over the duckers and dancers. This should be a fight.:viking:cheers

I agree Margarito has fought the best but then again he's not exactly in a position to duck anyone.

I think it will be a fine fight but I really question the level of skill and talent Margarito has. It seems like he gets by with simple hard work and willingness to win at all costs. This used to be pretty much mandatory.

To go back on the Ortega-Margarito comparison I made, they even bear a facial resemblance!

Pacquiao will play the angles on Margarito all day the way I see it.

Maybe this will illustrate why Margarito's chances are being underrated here:

These are far from being simple superficial advantages. This is follicular fortitude, gentlemen.

I don't believe Pac will have much to do with Margarito on the inside and therefore won't need to clinch. I think he catches Margarito coming in all day and just moves out of range when necessary. My analogy concerns hand and footspeed. Pac's mobillity is superior to the more recent version of Mosley. Pac isn't going to gas like Cotto, his face isn't going to be a swollen mess (legit reasons or not) like Cotto, he's not going to fight off the ropes and he IS going to catch Margarito often with hard, clean shots. I think Margarito will be braver than Clottey was, but that will just run him in to a pounding all night.

It's a given that Margo will be catching a barnyard door all night if Pac can employ the wasp tactics that he used on DLH but it's just pac does take a breather in the middle part of the rounds & Margo's only got a one direction speed. Margo got to Cotto as early as the 2nd round badly where he proberbly broke Cotto's nose which ****ed Miguels breathing up. Pac's starting to look a bit banged up fighting these bigger guys now regardless of victories over them.

I'am just worried that he'll go all out to stop Margo & get a bit battered in doing it & Margo will be there full steam ahead eating leather up till the last bell chasing pac & he's only got to trap him once on the ropes to inflict damage that will slow pac down a tad & if that happens & it's a toe 2 toe job then we've got a possible upset & least we forget that just a couple of years back if you mentioned Pac beating Margo you'd have been laughed of of ESB.

bull****. the wright fight was never proposed and he tried forever w/ mayw. This is a classic case of a hater making **** up to discredit a fighter. Happens all the time on forum and really is sad. You're full of **** Powerpu.

    :good

Modern boxing talk would show Hegrant's lack of knowledge big time. The idea that Margo beats Pac should be about the equivalence that Harrison sparks out Haye. I actually can envision the latter scenario happening. Margo looked painfully bad in his last fight. He's very slow of both hand and foot. He can't out-box Pac and his face first pressure style is going to have him getting pasted by fast straight shots. He's tailor made for Pac. Just imagine, an even slower Ricky Hatton. Sure, he's much taller, stronger, and bigger but hows that going to even matter. He'll get in a few licks but be dominated by Pac's speed of hand and foot.

Listening to Roach's camp and 24/7. Roach said a week later how Pac was right back on schedule. The Clubber Lang analogy has been played to death. The only thing worrying for Pac in the long run is his footspeed seems to be slowing down a little. And Pac's been a few pounds lighter in this camp than in Clottey. Speed kills. The only thing that's unsure is if Pac stops Margo. I think the smart money is on the over and I think Pac will probably get a decision win.
