Yeah throw on a pair of these to make sure you don't knock him out and we can all have a merry christmas! This content is protected Actually don't bother I'd rather see you knock the bollocks out of him :deal
"...The account of how Peters and fellow promoter Pat Magee locked antlers like stags in the glen, eventually forcing Dunne to fight somebody of the calibre of Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Thailand in his first voluntary defence, should be mandatory reading. (As should the chapter on the build-up to the equally calamitous Kiko Martinez bout.)..." I'm looking forward to reading the book for this chapter alone. From what I've heard Peters wanted Dunne to relinquish the title and take on Israel Vasquez. The fight with Poonsawat was a mandatory challenge and not a voluntary defence. I wonder if the writer has got his wires crossed here, is he exagerating or did Dunne not want the Poonsawat fight or could he have kept the title and avoided Poonsawat???? More questions here than answers, but I suppose thats why you have to buy the book...
He couldnt have avoided Poonsawat- Poon was over a year as mandatory, but i think he wanted a few voluntary defences first! I think the suggestion was Poon may have taken a few quid to postpone challanging!! (not sure on that one) has anyone got the book yet?
Did any of the jurnos get a sneak peak of the book and is it worth getting. I got a couple of boxing books over the years but I felt let down by some of them.
there is bits in it that explain alot of stuff- it is interesting. Dunne couldn't fight in England because of a brain scan- thats why he went state side or could never fight Munroe etc (unless they came to Ireland)
yeah, it makes for interesting debate. i remember at the time Peters claimed that the WBA mandated that the fight take place in 3 months which he apparently managed to extend to 6 months. The WBA were apparently very insistent on Dunne's first fight being against Poonsawat which is understandable given how long he was number 1 challenger. Like most things in life Poonsawat may have been willing to wait it out if the price was right and its quite likely the WBA would have turned a blind eye if Poonsawat stayed quiet...
I remember some time back around 2006 Dunne was supposed to have a fight in Rostock in Denmark. A few of his more avid fans had booked flights to Hamburg and a ferry across and word was to book early before the fight was announced and the air fares jumped up. in the end I backed out of the trip which was fortunate because the negotiations broke down and the fight never happened. Obviously this happens all the time but this fight was apparently done and dusted and i never heard anything about it in the media or about it being cancelled. It's probably the conspiracy theorist in me but it makes you wonder if there was issues with the cyst which stopped the fight happening and it was all kept hush hush
touch and go mate. I fancy if but I like to get over and support the DolPhil bills so we will have to see. Hopefully we can have a few more drinks than we did in Brum! :good
He could have and should have avoided Poonsawat. He should have gotten Murnoe to call him out officially, then grandstanded about wanting to let it straight once and for all with Munroe. Then drop the WBA strap saying that he would be back for it, but never doing so and fight Munroe for the EBU title. Which he would have won in my opinion.
Tolan is a very good lad, and would take a fight with anyone or anywhere. Yes, JJ was massively outweighed going into the fight and if I was his managed I wouldnt have let him take the fight.
Its says on boxrec that Sweeneys fighting a hard hitter called rashad karimov in his next fight. is there any truth to this because Boxrec arent all that reliable?
