    in fairness its a boxer fighting a wrestler in kickboxing..so of course the boxer will have the advantage.

    It really shows you that the idea of "MMA striking" is totally meaningless, unlike boxing or even K1 MMA is still almost totally a transitional sport, hence the striking we see will be the result of many different forms and levels of training.

    The reason no MMA fighter would be sucessful at the very highest level in boxing is because no boxer of that quality has moved into MMA with the potential to switch back ala Overeem in K1 or Werdum in ADCC. The fact is that VERY few guys involved in MMA have ever devolped a skill in one MA to a world class level if they didnt first have some expereince in it pre MMA.

    Again, It was Tom Erickson, a wrestler. He took the fight to get paid because nobody wanted to fight him in MMA. Rampage would be another guy who had success in K1.

    That was a cool fight in K-1. As stated Erickson is or was a very good wrestler who did some K-1 ( he actually beat Jan Nortje in K-1 ). The best chance for the boxer to win under K-1 rules is to go for the KO right away, because the longer it lasts, the more damage he will have on his legs limiting his mobility and power in his punches. Briggs is tailor made for that as he has heavy and fast hands and he even scored a lot of early KO's in boxing.

    Btw Briggs was hype in this fight, if you want to see his post fight interview, check out this clip;

    After this bout K-1 wanted to have a fight between Briggs and Goodridge ( the bald black guy next to Erickson ) in the K-1 Vegas, but Briggs resumed his boxing career.

    Btw there have been other boxers in K-1; Vince Phillips, Cliff Couser, Arthur Williams, Ray Mercer, Botha ... to name a few.

    Here's the story of the K-1 event Briggs took part in;

    Yes I agree, especially because Goodrigde has very poor boxing skills. Too Briggs didn't accept this fight eventually. He probably would have got a wild card for the Last 16 and maybe he could have made it to the Finals that year.

    I know who it was and thats my point, we often get talk of "MMA striking" but really what does Eriksons striking have to do with Overeems?

    Certain aspects of striking need to be adapted to MMA but like most areas of the sport the training methods and levels of expereince vary greatly.
