When asked who was the hardest puncher he had ever faced, Pacquiao said “Cotto”. And despite him appearing to shrug off the punches during the fight like they were nothing, I remember Pacquiao admitting in a post-fight interview, that the shots were indeed hurting him – but he refused to show it.

So with Margarito standing in the opposite corner this time, I was wondering who out of the two – Margarito and Cotto – do you guys think punches the hardest?

    Vote and discuss....

(I think they're about the same)

I think it's Margarito. Cotto isn't a huge hitter, his big shot is a body shot, and they're not so destructive when he comes up against an elite fighter. Not that they don't work or they aren't the key. Mosley or Pac are just not gonna go over like how a Jennings or a Gomez did. The thing is they're both fighters who have to put a beating on you and won't relent (unless Coto's not in control of the fight, which is happning more and more which is why he's getting beaten, he gets savaged off the backfoot and the counter) so it's not so much One Hit KO power. I definitely think Margarito's uppercut is harder than anything Cotto can throw.

Good points. I also regard Cotto as a left-handed fighter when it comes to power-punching. Whereas Margarito lets go with both; thus inflicting more accumulative damage.

Margarito gets more leverage on his punches and loads up on em more.

IMO Cotto punches harder than Margo not because of a natural ability to punch harder but because the way they both throw punches. Margs punches are arm punches thrown from the shoulder while Cotto puts body weight and twisting his ankle to maximize effectiveness.

I think Cotto is, more specifically his left hook (not thrown as much as he used to but still) is a thing of beauty...I think that Margo is more wearing down, stamina breakin punches rather than the rib breakin, earbustin kinda punches...

    Prime for Prime, Cotto.
Right now @ the current weight class, I'd have to say Margarito.
(But really, How the **** would we know)

Cotto's left hook is harder than any punch Margo has in his arsenal, that said, Margo to me, seems like a punishing type of puncher, like a Duran, like he has heavy hands, not that he hits particularly hard, just that he has heavy hands.

Overall it would have to be Cotto, as he sets himself to punch, and has that left hook.

This discussion about "Who hits harder" always reminds me of Bruce Lee's answer to....
A Karate blow Vs. A Kung Fu/Jun Fan Gung Fu blow.

    Search it out.
