I dont know about that. Streams arent all that reliable, plus, i've never seen a huge house gathering to watch a stream.

hotboxes robbed the cable company's of millions and millions of dollars!

find me a DLH fight that sniffed 2.4 million buys WITHOUT Mayweather as the opponent.

In all fairness, its was the most highly promoted/marketed fight in the history of the sport. Billed as "The fight to save boxing", and many fans fell for it.

Before ODH, both Floyd and Pac were doing 350k buys... pathetic when ODH was hitting 900K and 1.4m buys.

We can only praise Floyd and Oscar for reaping the fruits of their labor.

Of course we're working in the realms of opinion now. What does this have to do with Mayweathers PPV anyway? And where was the necessary trigger for this disagreement? You're more than welcome to make a de la Hoya - Mayweather ass whopping thread (you could include a poll!) but this thread is dealing with Mayweather's PPV buys. Which I have implied once or twice already, are substantial.

All three fighters have different backgrounds. Oscar was also a much more well established fighter who had been on the PPV scene longer. That's not a fair way of looking at the PPV generating wealth of Pacquaio and Mayweather.

How did they manage to crack so high!? Oscar wrote in his book that people were laughing at him for saying this fight will break the record!

It's true however, if you were grading on a curve, drop the highest and lowest and average it out. They're both the same.

I've no idea to be honest. There are a number of reasons I can see though:

    1. This fight involved Oscar de la Hoya.
    2. Oscar was coming off a big KO win over Ricardo Mayorga and was making an attempt at trying to regain some sort of P4P status.
    3. 24/7 aired for the first time and the audience was able to get a good look into both fighters camp.
    4. Mayweather really shone through in the 24/7, he was also the best P4P fighter in the world.
    5. The fight crossed over into the mainstream media of the USA.

I'm sure there are much more reasons why this fight ended up being so big!
