He's patronising Foreman, because he has his own insecurity's, and is a wierdo. He is treating Yuri like a child, and it's not really clear why. Maybe he felt sorry for him?
Somebody posted a good link yesterday to another boxing messageboard where Ron Lipton was posting about Mercante and how much of a ****nut he is. I'm sure you can find it with a little searching. Mercante is quoted as saying Beathaeven Scotland died "More from being banged around in the elevator on a stretcher while they were taking him to the ambulance than he did from injuries in the ring." under his watch. Can you ****ING IMAGINE!?!!?!!
It was a while back but I do recall this very clearly because he was acting bizarre. His behavior gave me the perception that he wanted Juri to win, and win bad by any means possible. in harlem, when someone acts like mercante did at yankee stadium, we call it, "bugging out." arthur mercante was bugging the **** out. he was probably already hopped up emotionally because he made allusions to his recently deceased father before the fight. the simple fact is that the only chance foreman had rested heavily on his lateral movement and boxing ability, a strategy completely nullified by his leg giving out. he had a better chance of finishing the fight at all, let alone with a win, than a dog in bloody, shark infested water at that point. mercante was bugging the **** out.
This. His antics were very unprofessional. Didn't Foreman's corner throw in the towel? And Mercante Jr refused to stop the fight? DRAMA QUEEN. Now thank God it didn't happen, but what if Foreman would have been severely hurt or even killed by Cotto after Mercante Jr refused to stop the fight? Mercante Jr just wanted to throw his weight around. I wouldn't be upset if I never heard from him again.
the man just felt sorry that yuri was gonna lose due to an unfortunate knee injury he wanted the fight to be a good fight that why he was on yuri to not give up so fast and keep going on until he really felt it was the need to stop it.
