That's interesting. I think that was in an article as I remember hearing that too. Why do people hate clinching so much? As long as it's used as a strategy or to recover then I'm fine with it. If someone's doing it constantly out of fear then that's when it gets annoying. Mosley clinched effectively against Margarito imo.
I do. Lopez is just younger and fresher and the beating more accumulative. Vasquez can turn around a punch with one shot even if he is losing the whole rest of the fight. Marquez was a lot more shopworn against Lopez thanks to those Vasquez punches. Also, I think Cotto definitely hits harder. You had guys arms falling down helpless when he hit them on the shoulder (Branca), guys with broken orbitals (Paulie), guys with broken ribs, etc. Cotto had bone crushing power at times, and he never lets go with the number of punches Margarito does. Margarito is more of an arm puncher who catches up with you eventually. Academic from some standpoints, as Hamed hit harder than Pac from the look of his knock outs, but the relentless pace of Pac will also get you out of there eventually and helpless to continue just as well or better. I think style wise Cotto was more difficult for Pac, the counterpuncher with one big punch and precision is supposedly more dangerous to a busy swarmer than a slower, less agile swarmer. We will see tomorrow.
I think Cotto might be the better puncher because of his technique and and faster hands, but comparing Cotto at 145 and Margo at 150 I think Margo might get the edge. Not because Cotto was punching any less at 145, but Margo (and Cotto for that matter) probably hit harder at superwelterweight.
cotto all day long. the impact from his punches looks good, on a lot of his shots in the margorito fight were twisting margaritois head right round. i think margarito's power is more psychological due to his cheen and non stop pressuring style. it must get stressful trying to get away from or counter 100 punches a round
Why do I hate clinching so much? Because if I wanted to see two guys rub their chests together I would watch MMA or UFC. A boxer can have a point taken away if they are trying to recover and clinching. Mosley clinched every time Margarito got in close or was starting to pick up momentum. If that is what you call "strategy" I hope you have no beef with John Ruiz because he did the exact same thing.
I think Cotto's power is vastly overrated at WW. He was a monster at 140 but he's been more of a boxer at WW. I'd say Marg by a tad.
my honest response will be that only who has faced both can tell you, otherwise we could never know...the kos they have on their record has been with diferent weights and fighters
Cotto has more speed on his punches, having more pop on them, but the way he throws them he does it by standing right in front of his opponent, with that earmuff guard that he has exposing himself to the uppercut. Margo, on the other hand, doesn't have that pop because he lacks the speed and takes even longer than MC to "load" up on his punches. Margo would take 2-3 punches just to land one of his. Because of Margo's size I think they might be about even, but I'll give the edge to Cotto, but not by much. Margo's strengths is not his punching power anyways he likes to keep coming forward and take your best shots so I think it also takes a mental toll on the opponents as well.
you guys are looking to hard i know what straight hand right it was the hardest punch of the fight and shane was not buckled he came back and hit margo so got damn hard he didnt do that **** again
