McGovern was a shell of himself in his last bout loss to Britisher Spike Robson in 1908. Terry McGovern's mind began to fade thereafter and he suffered several nervous breakdowns. He was confined to various sanitoriums in an effort for a "cure".McGovern, lived financially on boxing benefits arranged by his old managers Sam Harris and Joe Humphreys, who never deserted Terry. In 1918, while refereeing soldier bouts at Camp Upton, McGovern came down with pneumonia, and soon died at his home in Brooklyn, NY, in 1918...McGovern was only 38 years of age...b.b.
Lived financially, benefits arranged, mind fading, nervous breakdowns.......sounds like the life of a person who lived to be much older than 38. Thanks for the info Burt. :thumbsup
