Actually, thats how I look at it. People love there conspiracies, but when you dive, the objective is to lose. Were it not for Nat Fleischer, and Walcott actually listening to him(Something no seasoned referee would have done.), the fight would have gone on. Sonny got up. To me, its proof he just got clipped.
have to agree. i think the roll around on the floor was a bit of an acting job and that sonny had no intention of giving it 100%, (whatever that was at that point in his career) but i don't think it was a dive
Ali looked bigger than Liston in the film. Liston was probably in for a beating if the fight had continued for any more rounds.
Dive mafia job why the **** wud yet fight in a college hall with only 2.5k people, he was meant to go down in first round, how could a bloke like sonny Liston get knocked down by a single punch from clay when he couldn't knock anyone else out with 1 punch, also BBC did a documentary on it that it never would have knocked sonny bono out let alone sonny liston
Liston was intimidated By Ali. Pure and simple. Sonny could handle a shoot out with a fellow big banger, like Cleveland Williams,no problem. It's things that were mysterious to him that intimidated to him. Muhammad Ali was the prime example. Your hero Tyson would have been similar in Ali's time.
:thumbsup Truth!! :thumbsup Tyson v.mentally-weak spineless bully like Liston - Tyson would be v.intimidate by teh mysterious/crazy Clay And probablys quit on his stool in teh 1st fight And take a dive Early in teh 2nd fight. Foreman Hooooooook!:hat
That sounds quite realistic. Tyson would've freaked out at the weigh in for the first fight. Ali's hysterics were self induced, whereas Tyson's would have been induced by Ali !
