Not to turn the classic section into a Mayweather-emmanuel toilet but he had a much easier time with marg than Cotto. Cotto superior skills and style made it a harder fight.

Tonight's fight reminds us that skills and style are much moar important than size. It's a natural reaction for people to get caught up in size. Smaller guys with better skills and styles like Morales, Marquez, Cotto, Clottey, etc had greater success.

while that's true leon, margo could have very well thrown pac out of his gameplan if pac had poor punch resistance. given the same disparity in skills the two had, i'm sure pac would have folded or reverted if he could not take marg's punches. skills play the biggest role but luckily pac had better skills and good punch resistance to overcome the size difference. getting hit flush by someone much bigger and 17 lbs over at this weight is no joke.

    Really?

What other fight in his last 8-10 fight history has proven like the Margarito fight, that Pac can endure large amounts of punishment? He never got hit like that before?

I totally disagree. Margarito was landing his jab more than Manny would have liked. And him being so much bigger, those jabs were powerful. Margarito also landed a bunch of clean uppercuts and hooks to the body that almost floored Manny at one point.

Once round 10 came, the fight was pacquaio's and he and everyone else knew it, Margarito was just too stubborn to stop fighting.

It was a great fight wasn't it, couldn't believe Pac wanted to stand there or stay on the ropes time and time again and trade with a much bigger/stronger fighter.

I still cant call the Mayweather fight though, too tricky for me. I've always gone with Mayweather winning a close fight but I dunno, lets just hope it happens.

Margarito got to Pacquiao with a couple of good body shots, but was just too slow for the most part. He truly has no defense whatsoever outside of putting his hands up. If not for his size he wouldn't have lasted very long at all.

Detrimental means it would have been bad for Pacquiao's legacy, which it was not. :good

I think it's quite obvious though ever since the Clottey and Cotto fights that Pacquiao takes a very good punch.

I was surprised at his defence as they made a point of saying they'd worked on it. He did nothing apart from hold his hands up as you said, and even that didn't work....I expected some good upper body movement and better footwork.

Your right though, it was only his size, heart and Pac going easy on him in the last round that got him through the 12.

I disagree with this Margarito hurt Pacquaio more than anyone and won a couple of rounds on my card, more importantly he hurt him to the body and hurt him with uppercuts. Dominating Margarito doesn't carry weight into a Mayweather fight though, ask Shane Mosley

Anyway in answer to the question, I currently rate Pacquaio higher than:

    Armstrong
    Ross
    Chavez
    Hagler
    Saddler
    Arguello
    Monzon
    Archie Moore
    Ortiz
    Sal Sanchez
    Benitez
    Calzage
    Bivins
    Marshall

I'm not sure but may rate him above:

    Benny Leonard
    Pep
    Galivan
    Hearns
    Greb
    Tunney
    McCallum
    Hopkins
    Gans
    Napoles
    Burley
    Holman Williams

    But below

    Charles
    Robinson
    Duran
    Whitaker
Mayweather (and when they fight you'll see why)
    Jones
    R Leonard

(Thats without including HWs of which Ali, Marciano, Tyson, Holyfield, Holmes would be my P4P stand outs)

Pacquaio would emphatically beat both Armstrong and Ross and he has better scalps than either. Pep is probably a better featherweight and would probably beat him there, but when he went up in weight by 9lbs lost to Angott and got bullied by a limited Saddler (although past prime), Pac would dominate Saddler and Angott. Pac is clearly the better weight jumper and has better wins. Greb against the better fighters he faced wasnt dominant and lost and drew to someone he outweighed by about 17lbs

Archie Moore has great longevity but when in with the elite came off second best

Listen, Double P. Someone else will no doubt try and rip that to shreds. I however am comfortable resting my entire argument and objection on that one poignant Mr. Show gif...which I feel speaks volumes. It is more than words could say, in essence.
