At lightweight i feel strongly that Whitaker wins. At welter i favour Whitaker but he could be outworked at certain periods of his welter career so i don't know. Whitaker imo is a terrible style match-up for Manny and i do think he's just better, sorry.

The thing about Pacquiao......He's punching so quick these days. He seems to have had increased handspeed as he's moved up the weights. Very strange, I know. His handspeed against Margarito was quicker than both his fights with Marquez.

  4. at welter pacman for sure. at lightweight is debatable

Yeah. Crazy. I've always said though that while he is fast, he's not ultra fast of hand, like a Meldrick Taylor say. It's more that Pacquiao is a fast operator, as in everything is done at a high pace and tempo, moving, head movement, punching, he works at a very very fast pace, generally.

I agree he looked extra fast the other night though.

Whitaker at either weight. Why the Margarito fight would influence anyone either way is mind-boggling.

It changes a few things. It's now incredibly unlikely that Whitaker could hurt Pacquiao at either weight, whereas without the Margarito fight, that would be a possibility. His chin is excellent at these higher weights and the Margarito fight dismissed any speculation about it.

I would be on Pacquiao at both weights. I think he's a better fighter, but I can't see Whitaker coping with someone who has faster feet and throws combinations like Pacquiao. Whitaker would not be able to keep his range.

I still don't understand your point. How does a win over Margarito influence opinions on an hypothetical matchup between Pacquiao and Whitaker? You couldn't find a more vastly differing style or class of opponent.

  12. manny has more experience now, he took shots from a very hard puncher, a stronger guy, pacman did show great heart, speed, great combinations,courage... i am not talking on styles, i am not comparing margarito with pernell. but in this fight pacman did show the great warrior who he is.
and it would be a key factor against whitaker

Whitaker hurting Pacquiao wouldn't be in his gameplan, I don't think. Perhaps with body-punching, but otherwise I figure he'd do his usual thing, taking advantage of Pac's porous defense by jabbing his head off. Pacquiao has excellent in and out movement, but when he explodes he attacks in straight lines, which is hardly the recipe for success against a defensive/counter-punching wiz who is more or less incapable of being trapped.

As if any of that was in doubt prior to the fight? It still doesn't change anything in a fight with Whitaker. Neither fighter is lacking in intangibles, so it comes down to styles and skills. I don't think there's any question there who holds the edge, but that's just me, I guess.

I don't think it was, I think its easier to look fast against an easy to hit Margarito than it is against a Marquez. But he may have got quicker due to his weight draining at 126/130

As for this fight, I think Whitaker outboxes him but Pacquaios speed may see Whitaker touched more than usual
