Just curious as to the thoughts of posters regarding mexican fighters and their "machismo." I read another comment online regarding this very subject and I too was curious about the subject. I've heard on several occasions a Mexican fighter saying something along the lines of "I'm Mexican, and we are warriors... we fight to the end." Especially hearing the head corner man say it was especially discomforting (R. Garcia). If a fighters corner doesn't stop it who will?! Are mexicans immune to brain damage? Do they heal at a superhuman rate? I hear this state of mind on geographic level as well. Philly fighters for example. Thoughts?

If you train Brandon Rios and Antonio Margarito I would not worry about them getting brain damage, that ship sailed long ago.

It is sad to see a guy take a severe beating but people are seriously overrating the beating Margarito took. I never saw Margarito have the look he had against Mosley. That beating was brutal and you could tell by Margaritos body language that he was feeling the punches bad. I was yelling at the screen for that one to get stopped. This one not so much. The swelling and cuts made it seem worse than it was.

I agree that the swelling and cuts made this one seem worse. I was referring to the state of mind of the these fighters in general. I just think it's stupid. If I were a fighter, I'd fight hard I would imagine, but at the end of the day I want to go home to my family too.

It's Stupid to you because you're a Couch Coach. You probably never suffered once in your life.

In MX there is no such thing as welfare, or food stamps, or free meals...You work your ass off and your lucky if you get something to eat.

That becomes a way of life.....and you live that way the rest of your life no matter what you do.

For instance, I work in the finance world (as white collar as it gets) and I work my ass of harder than anyone else around me....It's my culture.

    Dear lord.

Let me put this is simple terms. Working hard and being a dumb ass are two different thing. We aren't talking about the hours and dedication Mexican fighters put in the gym. The drive and dedication Mexican fighters have can not be question. But the OP is talking about the stupid "I'll die in the ring" mentality. You see the difference? Working your butt of to get somewhere is completly diferent then taking an ass kicking that ain't going to get you anywhere other then an ass kicking.

I was going to start a thread about this. I think its stupid that most Mexican fighters seem to think that they have to do it. I mean you go out and give everything but I dosnt take a man to stand there and get a beating for no reason, it takes a fool. Im not saying just because your getting beat and have bruise or two that you should quit. I think its OK if its an even fight but to just keep going on when its becoming clear that you are going to lose is stupid.

It's a warrior culture. Their pride is something that cannot be taken away from them.

It takes a man to get a beating and not quit, simple as that.

At thier best, they can use that "machismo" to capture an audience's heart, ie. Chavez, Morales, MAB, JMM, etc...

Although, unlike some, they had skill to aid thier machismo, which made them very dangerous opponents.

You call that being a man? Well there are other stupid things you can do then. Since doing stupid things make you a man. When people do stupid thing it makes then a man. WoW!!

Taking a beating when you can just quit. Instead the stupidity can lead to a fatherless child. Having your parent out live you and going through the anguish of burying your dumb ass. Yea that is a real man.

Koreans have the same warrior mentality. It cost Du Ku Kim his life fighting Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini.

To be fair, this "stupid" mentality is what got Marg and many other fighters out of poverty. Marg could have easily caved in against Cotto, but it was this attitude that made him prevail
