Floyd, Sweet Pea, and Pep are 3 of the 15 greatest fighters of all time. So comparing a boxer with a similar style is very difficult. Camacho was very slick but he is not at that level even though I feel he will be in the HOF.
Actually I love Tyson but he is being severely underrated and diminished now. Its actually sad that he could have been the Goat hw
He also said Pep was the best prizefighter he's ever seen. Good thread. Good that you got rid of the avatar too.:thumbsup
atsch atschatschatsch Chimba, just stop man. I know you put this thread up in an innocent vein but those quotes are just wrong. James Toney is the definition of slick. Your first quote is ridiculous, virtually all those fighters (perhaps save for Jones who with his unique style is in a league of his own) are more similar to Floyd than Pac by a mile.
The problem with this thread is that you keep trying to force limit multi-dimensional ATG fighters into a 'boxer/puncher' or 'slick' either/or categories. SRR could do whatever the hell he wanted in the ring. The same SRL that walked down Hearns also forced an ATG to literally quit out of frustration (Duran). Sweet Pea was 'slick', but he cranked up the power shots on Hurtado when he needed to. Ask Foreman if Ali could sit down on his shots. Ask Shane if PBF can sit down on shots.
WHat?? Robinson, Armstrong, Greb, Dempsey, Marciano, Gavilan, more similar to Floyd than Pac?? care elaborating? Duran more similar to Floyd than Pac style. Why ask Duran and tell him he fights like Floyd?:huh
Again what about Kid Gavilan and Emile Griffith..comes out of a fight al busted up..same with Robinson. Same with Louis, what about those guys? Everyone can avoid punches up to a certain point, most likely the lack of challenge. Duran has a better defense than Leonard but hes been in wars.. Same with SRL, hes been banged up a few times. This matador analogy is fine and dandy. But meat and potatoes, its the guts and glory. Again look at the lists and look at the seminal fights of these great fighters..Its get hit and hit back
