The list is very long. I name over 5 fighters but according to Chimba they are punchers which does not make sense to me. If the guy is slick he is slick dont matter if he has super power or can't hurt a fly. :huh

This is a simplified version of my opinion using grand generalizations. The topic is too multi-dimensional to actually break down in a post.

I think slick fighters are favored in ATG lists and Fantasy match-ups because that's what is culturally more praised in Western Civilization. Most of the ATG fighters are American.

Most casual fans like blood and gut, most avid boxing fans can appreciate the skills in boxing, but they are led to believe only certain types of skills are important. It's like trying to argue what is good music, art, food, etc. Everyone has different criteria, but there are always snobs to categorize things.

    Examples:
Chavez and Tyson get a lot of **** as being one-dimensional becuase they were offensive, yet they had great defense coming forward.
Joe Calzaghe gets crap because he doesn't turn his punches over, but he beat opponents with "more" skill and cleaner punching.
Pacquiao got crap in his early career for being one dimenional and not very skilled. I doubt many will claim he is more skilled than Barrera, Morales, or Marquez, but he beat them didn't he?

I think it's because they look "better" when they're fighting to be honest

Man its hard to talk to you.. your goal is to discredit. Learn something from this Leon kid, we dont agree alot but he knows what im saying and as man to a man, we agree to disagree. Meanwhile, you seem to be the only one who dont get it. Why is that? Thats because you want to get in the last word. In that case you win:lol: The forum is yours.

yeah. it's a long list. but look at upper echelon (the top 20-25). probably less than a third of them can even be considered as slick boxers.

All Im saying that most in that list has a boxer-puncher style. Thats all. Floyd is a boxer a slick smart one. Pacquiao is a boxer-puncher, brawler at times. When they fight..Ill admit, i wont bet my house on either one.

No fantasy matchups of he'll make him look foolish lol

Both slick fighters and brawlers(chimba likes to use"boxer punchers") are overrated .

I think that fighting slick is harder to teach to learn than being a brawler. It's much harder to master that style of boxing

I understand that. Most fighters in general are boxer-punchers. Hardly ever do you see boxers that are strictly defensive or offensive. For the most part we as fans associate boxers with those titles. What is definite though is that each boxer has had a style which relies primarly on skills based on the abilities they have as athletes.

I don't think fighters can truely be said to have certain skills until they test those skills against elite competition. For example: If I take boxing classes and beat up some chump in the class ala Mayweather, I may look like an elite fighter to the average Joe Schmo. In fantasy match-ups I may even look good enough to take on one dimensional pro-journey man with 1-10 record. When we actually meet up to fight, the pro may actually have been a few levels higher than me.

This is the same thing with ATG against ATG, most ATG never fought someone like the other ATG, so in the end its speculation. Has Mayweather ever used his skills to beat someone like Pacquaio or vice versa? No! So no one knows who will actually win the fight until it happens.

There you go sensible post. The only reason I used slick boxers (I know even Rocky was slick in his own way) was a way of describing a guy like Floyd, Pea, Raheem, lol. Guys who are master boxers but has avg or below average power. These guys are rare in the ATG rankings. Mostly its the speed + power guys.
