Why do boxers do slow runs not fast runs?

You can not be considering comparing cycling to running can you? And if you have ever rowed you would know that breathing patterns are different to running. e.g one big pull rest and reset then back to one pull. compared to running consistent hard work.:patsch

"We don't want your kind here" The people that have no clue and I make look silly when I correct their silly theories and ideas? What is your name so I can check your record and titles? Please enlighten me to what I'm up against...

I'm fairly sure I have more people that would want me to stay around and give general information than poaintless people like yourself that have absolutely no clue about anything.

What is it then? It helps your recovery from anaerobic work and that's about the only thing it's useful for in regards to boxing.

Give me articles on where you got this information about the huge differences in breathing between each different type of cardio.

If you are going to be going 12 rounds you should do some "slower" distance. A 12 round fight takes 47 minutes total...so you're furthest distance should be maybe 8 miles...which anyone under a heavy should be able to do 1:05 hours or less.
However boxing is not purely aerobic it is also anaobic...as such you should do some sprints...some shorter runs at a faster pace (say two miles in 12 minutes). Anoher good approach is doing 800 meters as fast as you can...slow walk for 1 minute...do another 800 minutes....you won't get to 12 rounds...but you can likely do 5 or so if your in shape.

If you are boxing amature you can throw the 6 mile runs out...the furthest you might do is a occassional 3 miles,,,mostly you want to stick to two miles and less.

Many boxers do tend to run more distance then they should. Holyfields trainer often times critized this "old school" approach. However, the truth is the real old times knew better. Read Jack Dempseys book championship fighting. He describes interval running and farlakes...only difference is he didn't use the fancy words.

Yeah running 800 metres is tough work and pretty close to the energy systems you want to be stressing for boxing. One thing that doesn't look right to me is the one minute rest and the 5 runs. The intensity wouldn't be right after the first run, i'd suggest atleast a 5 minute break between runs. 800 metres run hard should be torturous work so 5 would really be pushing it I imagine.

Well I have seen some workouts of elite level fighters where they could manage a one minute break...but you're right...in most cases you do want to take as much time as you need to reach close to full recovery (but not quite full recovery) other wise it will just end up degenerating into a 800 meter jog.

I say... Do whatever you like. There will always be people worshiping new ideas and telling you you're doing things wrong. Only a handful of ideas truly stand the test of time. Who knows when someone significant will be discovered to turn everything we know on it's head.

The best shape I was ever in I could do 800 meters pushing as hard as I could for a time of 2:35 or so. I would take a one minute break, then run and manage 2:45 (I was in really good shape so I had fast recovery) I then would take one more minute, would do another 800 meters (this would usually take a bit over 3 minutes). At the time I was just training for amature 4 round fights, so I would take one more minute, and then end with a 200 meter sprint.

People who say sprinting does not build endurance, don't know how to workout.

    Have you ever done

    8 x 300m 2min recovery, 80% effort.

Thats just alittle taster, of some serious lactate.

Throughout this whole session, who heart rate with be over 80%, and you will be in Vo2max range.

Jeff Thomas, whats do you do any sprint workouts...? mixed in with afew long runs..?
