The ruleset would automaticaly favour Sullivan, even though he was primarily a gloved fighter. The fact that he had three fights at world level under the London Prize Ring Rules would be a considerable advantage.

Hard to say how long it would last, but if Johnson was prepared to go down without getting hit to end rounds and avoid punishment then he would almost certainly be able to stretch it out for a couple of hours.

    why?

  5. basicaly because sullivan had great experience in fights without gloves, he could take shots without gloves, obviously he had great stamina because he fought 75 rounds.

but we can talk on sullivan only based on books and testimonies , i never saw a footage of his fights. it is true too

Who did Sullivan fight bareknuckle ,that would have made even a halfway decent sparring partner for Johnson? KIlrain?
Read the fight report, it is a joke

I'll take Sullivan, because from what i've heard of him, he's the only genuine "White Tyson". :D

In seriousness, Jack Johnson probably beats every champion before Dempsey.

No one has seen footage of his fights.
Sullivan fought middleweight Charley Mitchell twice, the first fight was stopped after 3 rds and, though Mitchell had been down several times he had Sullivan down in the first round,Sullivan was 40lbs heavier than Mitchell.
Mitchell fought Sullivan again and went 39 rds to a draw with him.Mitchell scaled 166lbs to Sullivan's 200lbs , 34 lbs dfference .Six years later, Mitchell could not last 3rds with Jim Corbett.
Johnson at 208 lbs would be as heavy ,if not heavier than Sullivan, taller ,and scientifically more advanced.

Without gloves, I would pick Sullivan. Still not sure how good Sullivan was as his resume of big name wins is a bit thin. Fights with Jackson, Goddard, or Slavin would have told us a lot more about John L's ability in the ring.

How can a guy who lost to the likes of Choysnki, Hart, Griffin, Klondike, and drew with Jim battling Johnson, and Jack O'Brien probably beat all champions prior to Dempsey in Sullivan, Fitzsimmons, or Jeffries? These four did not lose to mere contender types, or draw with journeyman 20+ fights into their career!

As Champion Johnson ducked the best four contenders out there in Langford, Jeanette, McVey, and Smith. You might want to look up what happened when Johnson as champion meet Smith in a 4 Round exhibition match. Hint-hint, its a lot more earth shaking than Page knocking Tyson down.

  14. sullivan was 5´10 1/2 he weighed 190-230 pounds he was more compact, more durable and harder puncher than jonhson ,he weighed 190 and he knocked leGouriff(not a great boxer but he weighed 300pounds) out in1 round , jonhson was more skilled, he was 6´2 and 195-208 pounds .yes, jonhson was more advanced, but tyson was more "advanced" than ali or foreman, mayweather is more "advanced" than robinson . it does not demonstrate nothing. and the facts are sullivan lost just 1 time in his end against an AGT corbett. jonhson has several defeats even in his prime.

I'll save everyone some time here.
"That afternoon I boxed Ketchel for a few rounds, then at four o'clock I got over to the Seal Rock House, and Jack Johnson put on the gloves, and that's where they begin to think I was something ,because I hit Jack Johnson on the chin, and knocked him through the ropes, and damn near out of the Seal Rock House". Edward Gun- Boat Smith .Recorded at his home in Brooklyn , NY in 1970.
Well,Kalassin ,did the earth move for you?
