How long had you been training for? How did you prepare yourself mentally on the day of the fight. What was it like during the fight and how did you feel about it afterwards? Feel free to add anything else that you think is relevent to your story:good
I think i was about 14 years old, about a 3 hour drive away from my town, never had nerves the first time round like i did the rest of the time. Remember sharing a changing room with around 20 other boxers, and me and my gym mates wondering which guy we were fighting. I remember seeing a guy roughly my weight that i thought i'd be fighting and geared myself up to smash his face in, pictured myself beating him. Turned out it wasn't this guy, it was a gym mate of his, big black boy, slightly shorter but stockier in build than myself. Anyway, i remember walking down to the ring with a swagger and after the fight my gym mates thought this was funny, but they also kinda respected the confidence. Before i stepped up onto the canvas i remember making eye contact with my opponent and he didn't seem up for it. This gave me a whole load of confidence and when the bell finally sounded i remember cirlcling four a few second (felt like longer though) then finally throwing the first punch. My punches seemed to land spot on through the fight and i was pleased with myself. At the end of the second round my trainer, Billy, told me "your fighting like a king wee man, just keep doing what your doing and the fights yours". I remember feeling tired beyond belief but went out and boxed my fight. When the bell went i was pleased, but didn't know which way the decision was going to go. The club secretary was at ring side and motioned to me to wipe the blood away from my mouth and teeth. i remember i couldn't becuase my gloves hadn't yet been taken off. The decision went to me and i can remember my punching the air celebration. haha great feeling. Back in the changing room me and my opponent both sat and watched the fight played on a small camcorder, which his dad filmed. I looked suprisingly good to my self. Fought the same guy a few months later after coming home from an all inclusive holiday in majorca and narrowly lost on points. (My trainer thought i had won it and said i'd probably lost the fight due to the fact the other lad was in his home town. Sorry for the long post but thats what i can vividly remember from almost 10 years ago.
haha, cool story. I had been training for 6 months. The guy I had fought had been training for two years. The night before I had just been going for ring setup so i drank and was on like 5 hours of sleep. Blah. Anyways we get there and his fighter didn't show so I took the fight. Remember nothing about the first round but lost 12-1. At that point he gassed. So I went out the second round and was barely outpointed, the third round I barely outpointed him and lost the decision.
Wasn't really nervous I had no idea what to expect. I was eyeing some guy, thought he was my opponent. Short stocky guy, scary look on his face. When I entered the ring a tall lanky guy was in the other corner, threw me off a bit. Started the fight slow and in sparring mode, but found out what the difference between sparring and fighting was within 10 seconds. Got hit with the first straight right he threw and got a bit uglier. Remained calm and outpointed him for the remainder of the fight, but did not get the decision. I remember not really caring about having lost, all I wanted was to get back in for more. That changed when I won my first fight later on and found out just how good winning felt.
I was about 7 years old got my ass kicked couldnt tell you much about how I felt about it being that it was 30 years ago but I imagine it wasnt fun....
i was fighting a boxer that had won 3 out of his 5 fights i was a little nervous but felt great when i got in there i was doing really well in the 1st i even give him a standing 8 count but in the 2nd and 3rd i was ****ed i had nothing left and he beat me on points
long story short, was terrified and afraid I'd suck. didn't suck (well too badly lol ) and been hooked ever since.
i'd been training for 8 months before my first fight.i weighed in at 10st 3 lbs and the matchmaker put 10-6 down for some reason.i found out later that my opponent was 10-9 and he went down as 10-6 too. i broke his nose and half punched half pushed him out of the ring in the 2nd round but in the 3rd round i'd run out of steam.i thought i'd won, my trainer told me i'd won and the crowd thought i'd won but 2 judges thought i hadn't. my prize for the fight was a watch that must have gained 10 minutes evrey hour.i'll never forget the fight though and i couldn't have felt much better if i'd won. march 1978 it was, at the imperial hotel, blackpool and i've still got the program.
Boxed a local kid on his home show in Preston. He was called Brian Pemberton and I knocked him out in the first round with a left hook. It was nice.
Fought a pretty decent guy in my first fight and he was 16. I was 13 and nervous as hell but I put on a face like Hagler and was all stares and glowers. I remember coming out at the boy with lots of punches (even though I boxed in the gym, I just fought with this kid), the kid was a solid puncher. We traded a good bit of shots but I was tippy-tappy-ing and he was landing the harder counter shots and gave me a sore head. I kept pressing the fight, and was throwing heaps of shots but the guy moved around me good and picked his shots. In the last round he dropped his hands and stuck his tounge out, so I drop my hands get right in front of him and dare him to hit me. And I got warned for showboating. I lost 7-1 in the end but got a rematch the next week and put up an even better fight and I felt I won it, and won it good, but I lost 7-6. Anyway after that first fight, I was knackered and had a sore neck.
I'm a small super heavyweight at 93kg and 6ft2 when I got to the tournament looked around for my opponent who was no where to be found until later that night a 6ft8 110kg tower of muscle walked in. I think the crowd felt sorry for me when I stepped into the ring with him. 1st round he was very aggresive but didn't land much, I just moved and got my bearings but he probably won the round becuase I didn't do much 2nd round I knocked him down 3 times and his corner threw in the towel. I won boxer of the night. It was a fantastic feeling and have been fighting ever since although have since decided to drop down to heavyweight
bloody hell, what a start. it wasn't in the north end supporters club was it ?? a lad in our club made his debut with a 1st round stoppage and in his second fight, you've guessed it, he was on the end of a 1st round stoppage.
