OK OK OK, I just saw the complete Rigondeaux-Cordoba fight and I have a couple of things to say. Even though that I agree with many of you in that Rigondeaux shouldn't had hit and run so much in the later rounds, in the meantime I saw a great technical boxer with great skills. The vast majority of you don't seem to understand his style nor the Cuban style.

Rigondeaux's ( and the vast majority of the Cuban's styles ) is hit and don't get hit. He fought an ex-World Champion with a 37-2 record, with just 6 pro fights, was going for his 1st World Belt and even was fighting 12 rounds for the very first time. The majority of the great ex-amateurs need at least 15-20 pro fights in order to shake off the amateurs and to understand what really works best for them in the pros. Not only hasn't Rigo had that opportunity to fight 15-20 bums ( like every other starting boxer ) but he did something hardly never done by any other 6-0 boxer and he passed the test with flying colors in my opinion.

In the first 6 rounds Rigo demonstrated what boxing is really about, with excellent timing, excellent accuracy, movement and extreme calmness. Keeping in mind he was fighting an ex-World Champion with 40 pro fights, 3 inches taller than him and who has even defeated Caballero, Rigondeaux was handling him with ease. I think that he changed his strategy in the last 6 rounds to throw off Cordoba, as he easily won the first 6 rounds. That strategy worked bigtime as Cordoba had never seen such excellent leg work and side to side movements. Now, I don't critize that strategy on the contrary, I praise it.

Rigondeaux will only get better with more fights, he should be more confident now him defeating an ex-World Champion and doing it with just 6 pro fights. The downside is that from now on Rigo will probably won't have time to fight 5 to 7 mediocre boxers in order for him to adapt and polish up his pro style as he is the Interim World Champion already. So that means that his competition will only get harder from now on. Rigo's bodyshots are insanely wicked, but I agree that he should step up the aggression more and drop some of that defensive moves ( only use it for when he really needs it to throw off his opponent or to get out of danger ).

I know that boxing fans don't like masterful boxers and only like to see hardcore scraps but Rigo's is not about that. He is about " the sweet science " hit and don't get hit and no one does that better than him. There were many great ones that had similar styles like Pernell Whitaker, Roy Jones Jr, and were extremely successful at it. All I say to you is don't be too harsh on Rigondeaux, let's wait for his next fights and I am very sure that he will surprise all of you!

    :good

I remember when it was first announced that he was turning professional. Some Cuban lad was already tipping him to be an ATG.

Professional Boxing is a different sport to Amateur Boxing.

Well, not that much different. Cordoba ( the so called pro Champ ) didn't know how to hit Rigondeaux nor cut off the ring in order to catch him. That says that some amateurs have a higher level of technique than the pros. :good

He will. I also think that Rigo wanted to be safe and win that Interim Belt. If you think about it, it has to be very hard to fight that type of high caliber fight with just 6 bouts. Also, keep in mind all the problems that Rigo had with leaving trainers and joining new ones. I think that considering all of these factors, Rigondeaux did extremely well. From now on, he will start shining! :good

Well I guess If I missed your point then you also missed mine. What I said is totally true, an ex-World Pro Champion should know how to cut off the ring and hit a defensive fighter but he didn't touch Rigo in the last 6 rounds... :-(

Well, from now on that's exactly what Rigondeaux will be doing. I also think that when he starts facing smaller 122 pounders ( his own size ), and orthodox fighters that's when we will really see his unique finesse. Cordoba is around 3 inches taller and a lefty, that's why I think that Rigo didn't looked too sharp besides all the other factors. :good

Rigo already running most of his last fight.

I'd rather watch a person watching paint dry.

Gamboa has bigger and better fish to fry ( Lopez and John ), and Caballero is too easy for Gamboa. It's a damm shame that the Gamboa-Caballero fight didn't happen, Gamboa is way too athletic, skilled, fast and powerful for Caballero in my opinion. In order to beat Gamboa you have to bring equal speed ( and there's no one out there that can match him in that department ), as without matching his speed you can't beat him. Caballero is too slow and too easy to hit, Gamboa KO's this dude in less than 5 rounds...:good

The guy has a glass chin... he was nearly dropped from a jab that landed flush.

He than turned on his burners and ran the entire remainder of the fight..
he'll be nothing, terribly boring style ... waste of talent.
