the greatest of all time

I admire Tyson's ability a great deal but, I can't agree. And I admire Foreman, but I can't agree that he would've beaten Ali either. He was outclassed by a man durable enough to withstand the freakish power.

 

Bull**** that foreman would have gotten Ali if it wasnt for the mindgames, Ali was winning the fight by countering the hell out of foreman with overhand rights.
His handspeed and ability to just sponge up the punishment and his ring intelligence adapting so beautifull afte realizing his legs couldnt get it done for him was beautiful. Just a perfect execution.

 

Tyson was strong and a breath of fresh air in a weak and stale era, and was such a phenom that played into the "white america's worst nightmare" stereotype that media all over the planet loved him for his ability to generate 'eyeballs'.

He wasn't anywhere close to being the best ever, although he had moments where he made it look beautiful. How is a 2-year prime against weak opposition candidacy for being the greatest? He probably isn't even in a HW top ten, let alone being the GOAT.

 

Tyson's dominance had much to do with the fear he was instilling in opponents, but that was also a limitation. When Liston, who had the same effect on opponents, got in the ring with someone who was not intimidated, he looked ordinary. Young Ali wasn't invincible, he barely got by Doug Jones a few fights earlier, but he demystified Liston. Like Douglas did with Tyson. Prime Tyson against Foreman, Ali, Lewis, Vitali, Holyfield, prime Holmes, he might lose all six.

 

I am wondering should i lift some of your **** from your other Tyson thread.

 

When some one pointed out a lack of boxing knowledge because of never seing Lennox fight.

So some one shows him where he said he has never seen Lewis. Now this is the funny bit.

You saw every Lennox fight.

What you're saying is that last night you watched a documentary about Tyson and really liked it and now you think he's the greatest of all time.

Meh, I'm not convinced. I think he would have been physically disadvantaged against guys like Vitali and Lewis. I doubt Foreman would have been intimidated by Tyson, and I reckon Ali would have had more than enough to beat him.

Tyson was awsome though.

 

Tyson definitly is not the greatest HW. Sure, he looked very good against most opponents, especially those who were not much bigger then he was, those were frightend by his aggresive style and power. But...
There are no big names in the "prime Tysons" resume, besides an old Larry Holmes (who lost 2 fights just before the Tyson fight) an Micheal Spinks (who was a cruiser and came out of retierement for a huge payday).
And just go to boxrec.com and check, how Tyson did against bigger opponents, who were not so much frightened by him. Tyson had much more problems with big guys. The Prime Tyson still won those fights, but it was not the all conquering Tyson you mean when you talk about "Tyson the greatest".
He definitly was one of the most entertaining HW of all time. When it comes to beeing part of a list, I think he will make the top ten, but I'm not sure about the top five.

I think even the Klitschkos would stand a chance against Tyson, because Tysons style would not work against them. They would just lean on him when he tries to get into the infight with his head low down (not really clean, like Tysons low head, but effective). Then would try to wear him down with the jabs. It would be interesting to watch because of the different styles.

 

Yeah I watched that last night...very good watch. Tyson's speed, explosiveness and combination's at their peak were scary. And here's me thinking David Haye is fast, crazy.
