I think he did show a high level boxing skill...but he also needs to brawl a little bit...he has good defence and fast..real fast hands

Exactly. And so far, Rigondeaux is proving that, as Mark Breland did before him. I remember back in the 80s, everybody tabbed Breland as THE standout of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team because of all the amateur accolades he received. Guess what? He was probably its biggest disappointment.

I love too how all these people think guys like Stevenson or Savon would have torn through the HW division. Again, so far, Rigo is showing that it would have been just as likely that they would have been relatively ordinary.

The pro and amatuer boxing games are in many ways TWO DIFFERENT SPORTS, and this has become only moreso since the requirement that they use headgear in the Ams.

Are you on drugs? the guy just won an interim belt with only 6 fights, shuting down an ex-champ that has a win over Caballeros, he was never pressed, he was never in danger and coast to a win, boring but a win, bring WVII and all the others and c what happens, one fight doesn't make a career.

That's totally wrong. The amateurs are the basic foundation for a boxer to be successful at the pro level. All the great pros have had an excellent amateur background, ( with very few exceptions ). So, if an amateur was very successful at the amateurs with hard work and dedication he should also do very well at the pro level. The problem is that many great amateurs think that since they were Olympic Champs or World Champions that they don't need to train hard enough or that they are Champions already and come into the pros with the wrong mentality. They succeeded at the amateurs but now they must also demonstrate it again at the pro level.

So far with the Cuban ex amateur boxers many have done very well. Juan Carlos Gomez, Joel Casamayor, Diosbelys Hurtado, Yuriorkis Gamboa and now Guillermo Rigondeaux have become World Champions in the pros. So I am very sure that with the right dedication and training Teófilo Stevenson and Felix Savón would have ripped through the pro level as well. :good

That's 5 World Champions in a very small group of Cuban defectors. I would say it's actually the opposite, it says a lot ... :-(
