Fights in recent memory that the public begged to happen?

DLH -Tito

I clearly remember the public demand for this fight. Both were cleaning up the WW division, both undefeated, both at their very primes and both equally matched physically.


Lewis - Tyson

This fight has been "teasing" everybody for several years, from the time Lewis beat Hoyfield. Then after every Lewis' and Tyson's victory, the demand gets bigger and bigger.


Jones - Hopkins

Both P4P #1 and #2 in most people's lists. Both had their own impressive streak and dominance, at their primes and showing almost no weakness in the game.


All of the above though, are eclipsed by the public demand for Floyd - Pac.

Yeah that is how big this fight is.

Might have to disagree with you when it comes to de la Hoya-Trinidad and Tyson-Holyfield/Lewis. That was way back when boxing was mainstream in the United States, so these where the fights -everyone- wanted to see. I do believe Pacquiao-Mayweather will break all PPV records but I don't believe it will have the same mainstream media appeal that those fights I mentioned did. For instance no one on my University course is talking about Pacquiao-Mayweather (a lot of sports fans on my course).

Public did not have to beg for Tyson - Holyfield 2. That fight was signed right after the 1st fight.

But I can see your point about Tyson - Lewis. The talks about this fight was unbelievable.

 

so they were talking about Lewis - tyson on your University course back then ? and when Tito vs Oscar they also talked about it.

joke aside I think your sort of right , when I have asked people about the pac fight they have no idea who Manny is. But did those same sort of people know tito and Oscar ? maybe not but Im sure they knew Tyson.

Pac is a frequent and popular guest on American talk shows, and he was just featured this past week on 60 minutes.

Floyd, I'm pretty sure, used to be on the Best Damn Sports Show a lot, so he's got that going for him I guess. Too bad that show's canceled.
He might turn up again in a few months on court TV though. So we have that to look forward to.

But the point is, Pac is fast becoming a crossover celebrity in the mainstream American media. And Floyd is very popular within the hip-hop genre, so I think it would be a pretty big event.

Tyson was just a name that was never going to be a competitive fight.

DLH and Tito were not as impressive, as dominant, or as seasoned.

Hopkins and Jones were two wieght divisions appart and BHop priced himself out.

I think this is by far bigger then all these good examples...I mean when in history have two guys that are clearly head and sholders above everyone else in all of boxing been in the same division and not fought eachother?


If Pac May never happens it'll be a tragedy.
