It's not the bulk that matters it is the length that matters.
Look at Thomas Hearns when he was 147 & 154. He looks like a light wind can knock him over.

Best example that comes to my mind is watching an old ESPN show with a rising Billy Collins Jr., with pasty white complexion and doughy midsection and no muscle definition against a guy named "Rattlesnake" Johnson who had no body fat, desert tan, and muscles on top of muscles. Knuckleheads I was watching with knew nothoing about boxing and I read all the mags and knew who Collins was.

    Rattlesnake lasted about a minute.

You could make a long list of Latin fighters with pipecleaner arms who hit like a ton of bricks.

I think where physically matters most is in regards to comparing the same fighter at different stages. Generally looking better or worst then you did at another time is a good bench mark of whether you are better or worst now. Of course weights kind of throw wrench into that equation. A guy can start focusing more on weightling workouts and actually do less boxing workouts....look better but actually be less able to fight. But if you get into better looking physical shape by using practical hard core boxing workouts, then you are likely (but not always) going to be better.
