**** i didn't noticed i select the wrong options button. I'll go for Williams then Mosley. Last for Pacquiao
Williams didnt let Margo bring anything. Margarito was considered at the very top of his game against Williams. Eight title defences. When pac fought him he was coming off a win against a non ranked guy and a year of inactivity
if you will notice, margo always starts slow in all of his well-known fights, including his fight against cotto. he is known to heat-up as the fight goes on. margo came in strong in the last rounds that he came close to beating williams and the argument was if he fought strong that early, chances are, he could have taken the decision. now, coming from an impressive streak of win is important but gauging an opponent is also measure on how they performed on the night of the fight.
thats fair enough and i see your point that Marg went full throttle right from the start against Pac. But if you look at where Margarito was mentally before this fight, compared to the williams fight its night and day. Against Williams, Margarito was fighting infront of a full mexican crowd. He was coming off wins over cintron and clottey and 8 consecutive title defences. Against Pac although he looked in tremendous shape and looked confident enough, he was coming off a whooping by Mosley, followed by inactivity. Pac consequently whooped Margarito worse than anyone has and made him look foolish. But i think the 07 version of Margarito would be a tougher fight for pac. Thats where my reasoning comes from
of course physical state is important as well as confidence of knowing you are unbeaten on your last couple of fights. i am just bringing into the discussion how a motivated fighter can do wonders for a fighter. there's no question that the version of margarito which williams was the best out of all the options. i'm just stating that of all the options, it is the pac fight where he seemed to start-up well motivated. of course it's his biggest fight and trying to redeem his pride might be the cause.
yea. theres a case to be made that if Margarito had started off against Williams like he did against pac, and maintained himself, he could have got the decision
Don't take anything away from Mosley. Margarito was coming in as a heavy favourite against Mosley. 3 succesive KO wins including Cintron and a career high effort against Cotto. Most people dismissed Mosley's chances based on him losing to Cotto who himself was annihilated by Margs. Mosley implemented the perfect strategy, backed up Margs mid-fight and never looked like losing a round. I've never seen Margarito back away like that in any of his losses (including Pacquiao).
I'm still convinced that Margarito started loading those gloves after getting robbed a decision over the groomed WW freakshow that was Paul Williams. Tony was a beast at that time.
yes mosley deserves huge credit, the man was just coming fom a gruelling war against mayorga and he beats the #1 welter. it's an excuse but it's reasonable. being caught just minutes before starting to fight has a severe effect on your focus. who knows what margo was thinking at the moment when the fight started. it's just the circumstance that night had made mosley easier to apply his gameplan.
after the cotto fight margo's footwork went from bad to worse. before, he seemed lighter on his feet. against mosley and pacquiao it was like he was dragging chains. ill go with williams, he still moved well back then.
