It's easy to assume a person is stupid or inarticulate when speaking a second language, and a lot of people assume Pacquiao is dumb for that reason, but I was always curious as to how he comes across in his native Tagalog. Any speakers of the language care to comment on what he's like in native interviews?

Pac's second language is Tagalog and he is quite good. Pac speaks cebuano first and then Tagalog.

He comes off exactly the same in Tagalog. With the "uhhhs," "ahhhs" and long pauses. Stereotypical Filipinos aren't articulate, even in there own language, because they're not verbose and just keep everything simple. So it's hard to be articulate or specific, like a lot of people want Pac to speak in English, when your vocabulary just isn't that big.

Interesting. So how does he come across in Cebuano? does he really seem like someone who could give a speech that moves people, or hold a policy debate or a topic?

Pac's come a LONG way, d. Wasn't able to understand or speak a word of English when he first came to train at Wild Card as 122-pounder.

Even in English he is more articulate than Palin, so I would not worry about him as a politician.

I'll tell you what...his public speaking has improved alongside his boxing skills. He's worked a lot and I give him another 10 years being a congressman and an ambassodor to the sport, he'll almost be speaking good english. But the filipino accent will always be there.

Manny learned conversational english amazingly fast. i dont know why he was being subtitled in 24/7, I thought that was odd.

I work next to a lady from the PHilipines and I asked her what she thought.

She said he's very humble and not the best speaker of all time, and then she said, "But what man is that has had about 60 pro boxing fights?"

It seems common sense doesn't exist on the General Board...

I always thought he sounded like he has some kind of learning disability. he is an uneducated fool who got elected to congress because he is a dynamic boxer.

For the most part boxers are very low iq people. This fact holds true for most brute sports and military people.
