and thats a 40 year old jones way past his best, still faster than 99% of the guys in his weight...Thats the last fight that Roy really looked good imo. Best bodypunching ive ever seen him put in that night even more than his prime.
I don't think there's been a fighter in history as complete athletically as prime Roy Jones. Not just hand speed - But speed of foot - Reflexes - The whole kit and kaboodle. I think his post HW decline only further demonstrates that his style was developed purely around those amazing gifts and it took him to loose a couple of steps before anyone could bring him back down to earth.
Roy Jones arguably had the quickest hands in boxing history at his best. Jones was faster than Pacman & not just p4p either.
Yeah agreed. Look at that clip of Jones against Lacy for example... when you see that in real time it look as quick as any combo Pacquaio has thrown in his entire career. And that's Jones at 40 for ****'s sake!
Steve Kim wrote that Pac has the speed of Meldrick taylor and the heavy hands of Aaron Pryor. I agree its a perfect blend of speed and power.
Pac has the footspeed to go with the handspeed. p4p prime RJJ's hands are faster than the hands of the Pacquiao that fought Margarito.
Jeff lacy would make valuev look fast 1:08 is not impressive to me nothing much on those punches either. The DIFFERENCE is manny does that rounds 1-12 and floyds is more all out leading punch speed. All three very fast and to say 100% RJJ is the fastest without scientific proof is here say and doesn't carry any weight and neither does me saying Mayweather. Still think mayweather is marginally faster than both though but then you could also say depends on the punch.
roy also had the foot speed back in his prime. lets not kid ourselves. dude had SLICK movement and was incredibly quick at closing the distance and getting away. merchant on roy "he's the hardest type of fighter to fight...because he's hard to hit, and he hits hard"
