Margarito beat Sergio Martinez, can anybody tell me how this happened?

My guess is sergio must have been very raw back then!

 

Yeah, Martinez was a far cry from the fighter you see today. No question.

 

Body punching and workrate. Sergio tires mid fight anyways.

Sergio wasn't quite as sharp back then, but still a stylist. He had only been boxing professionally for about two years and had only boxed at all for 5 years. Margarito hit him throughout the fight with bodywork and his money uppercut.

 

He was a 25-year old and he started boxing at 19.

Sergio was green then. No real Amateur experience and he was learning on the job. that was a looong time ago and neither are the same fighter today. Martinez would demolish him today.

sergio is a much better fighter now, Also margarito was a much stronger fighter back then!! You have to remember that margarito is only 32 years old but hes been fighting since he was a little kid... and hes been fighting proffessionally since he was 15 in Tijuana! So combine those 2 things and you have a margarito victory! Prime for prime... Sergio beats Margs!!

Martinez still takes breaks in his fights. Margarto is the kind of guy that if you take a break against him, he will punish you and can take control of a fight.

They were both lesser fighters then than they are now. The fight would play out different but still a good one.
