They were both inexperienced..and Margarito is underrated.

Interesting. Only 12 KOs in 20 fights for Margarito at the time. Not even close to a power puncher.

Margarito is under-rated. he used to be a damn good fighter, its just his style got to him over the years! He uses his face to block punches! Hes still a tough mother ****er in my book. I will always be a fan of the tornado! Tony has always been a cool guy.. The 2 times ive met him he was so humble and approachable!

Where the hell did the idea that Margarito is a power puncher even come from? He stopped Cotto, who's never been tough to hurt, with volume rather than any one punch. Likewise, Williams stood up to his best for 12 rounds, and Cintron has seemingly always lacked heart. Body shots can end fights regardless of how hard you hit, it's all about placement and timing.

Margarito is a "respectable" puncher, who typically grinds down opponents. He's never shown great one punch power in his entire career. The guys he does stop aren't even out cold, they just don't want to get up and receive more uppercuts and arm punches.

Have to disagree with you about Pavlik being better than Margarito.

It's funny. I would have thought from the result that Margarito would have been closer to the present day Margarito than Martinez, but I see more elements of present day Martinez in this fight than present day Margarito, which is a surprise for me.

Forget about how many fights he had, or how old he was in comparison with Margarito, Martinez was a late starter who clearly improved with age. Nobody is trying to discredit the victory, we're just giving you a dose of reality. Martinez of today most likely schools Antonio and wins every round.

    I'm a Margarito fan.

Speaking of Margo, is this the only KD of his career prior to the Mosley fight?

Martinez only started boxing at age 20. He was a former pro cyclist and soccer player before that.

I think Pavlik is better defensively and a better puncher, but as a total package, I don't think he's better than Margarito, best for best, either, necessarily.

Without question. Like I said earlier, Martinez has always been a stylist, he's obviously changed a few things(and got bigger and I think has a different trainer as well) and it's made him a better overall fighter. Obviously, Margarito became a better fighter as well later on.
