The difference between Pac vs. Margarito and Williams vs. Sergio is that in the later bout, ONE IS CONSIDERED THE LEGITIMATE CHAMP IN THE DIVISION BEING FOUGHT IN. Both Williams and Sergio are ranked at 160, UNLIKE PAC AND MARGARITO AT 154. Although it isn't right because CATCHWEIGHT TITLE BOUTS ARE BS, it's far more credible and it's a rematch of THE FIGHT OF THE YEAR IN 2009.

Well, the Pacquiao Margarito fight for the vacant title featured a fighter who had never fought above 147 ever, and another fighter who had just re-entered the 154 division for the first time in years (his one fight of course was beating the fantastic Roberto Garcia).

I'm not a fan of the catchweight in the Martinez-Williams fight myself. But at least it features a legitimate title holder and was a FOTY candidate and is without the political strings attached.

cotto didn't want the title up for grabs at the c/w AND it wasn't a rematch

personally to be honest i dont give a damn if it is a CW fight even if its for the title. pac-margo fight yeah it is a BS title, but what the TS is calling out are those people having a problem with pacman's CW fight but giving PW-Sergio a pass.

Both sides to this have a point. As much as I have to admit it Benjamin also has a point. But the thing is Benjamin, Pac is Pac, and Martinez and PWill are not. Pac is expected to do things that other fighters are not, and will get more heat. Just like Floyd spent his career moving up fighting bigger, feared punchers like Corrales, Castillo, heck even N'dou (don't laugh, the man came in as 31-1 with 30 KOs and was much larger, not someone a "ducker" would fight). Yet he fights 2 smaller guys, both p4pers, and you hear these jokes about him calling out Ivan Calderon next. Same with Pac, the fans just simply expect more. Greatness breeds higher standards aka hate.

The TS never took time to reflect on the clear differences between both fights. Like I said, I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH CATCHWEIGHT TITLE BOUTS. But the Maravilla and Punisher rematch has credible points to it that outweigh this fallacy. Keep in mind that both have fought each other at 160 before with no catchweight. In that respect, I have no idea why P-Will is asking for a catchweight this time...black eye on him (NO PUN INTENDED; OR MAYBE :yep)

he had to, or lose the fight and belt

he agreed to 145 w/o the title

the WBO came in and wanted the sanctioning $ and said, belt on the line, or lose it

team pac wanted the belt, so no belt, they would walk

edit: so technically, no, he didn't agree to it

he got cornered into it...very backhandedly too...bad business

Ummmmm Perhaps your sorry ass forgot this was a rematch in which it was Sergio who moved up in weight after he fought Williams.... Williams is now comming up in weight again.....
Bottom line its a rematch its not like Martinez is asking Bradley to come up and fight him...

i'm sure he didn't, and if you scroll up, i say i don't support it

it still isn't the same situation as what pacquiao has done, especially since he didn't need the c/w

i also posted before something to the tune of:

    c/w are fine

c/w for a title is a bit bitchy

    c/w for a vacant title is b/s

c/w for a vacant title in a division where the 2 fighters fighting have a combined record of 1 - 0 in the last 5 years is ******ed

pac-cotto was their first meeting, and cotto got painted into a corner about the belt (in a way, serves him right, it was a paper belt anyway)

ptp - segio are meeting for the second time, and while i think the c/w is a ***** move on ptp's part, it is at least their second meeting (and if you go back through my posts, i have not exactly been on the ptp bandwagon).

should this fight be at a c/w.....nope

the fact that is it however does not justify pac-cotto / pac -margo though

CW ain't a CW clown. When the title is vacant. You don't own the belt so you can't decide to rig the weight.

You wish I would die because you can't handle rational discussion. You would rather sit in your circle jerk of FMJ bashers.
