Morales by UD at their peaks. Erik hit harder, better chin, can match Marquez from distance with his longer reach & better jab, has better footwork, is more comfortable in a slugfest if the boxing isnt going to plan & was also the far busier fighter (very important in close rds & fights in general)
The first jerkwad to come in here and just say "The fans." ...would be right. It would be a crappy answer but man would that person be right if they said that...
JMM was the most skilled of the three amigos. And the fastest. But EM was the toughest. 51-49 I'd favour Morales.
Tougher, really? I'd say Marquez was more susceptible to getting knocked down (and arguable even better at getting up and recovering haha), but Morales seems slightly more susceptible to getting wobbled and put off balance, and JMM is a great finisher. The Barrera fights between both of them are good examples. Granted the time difference is to be noted, but the two versions weren't worlds apart. Though since this does affect points outcomes, I'd maybe put them about equal in this respect without complaint in others giving Morales the edge. Not hard to find instances of Marquez tripping against an elite offensive fighter. Speed, and skill, I think JMM might edge it in those two areas. My prediction would be JMM deserving the win on cleaner punches by a round or two but Morales gets the decision for his aggression.
The only bigger shame than this not happening in their primes is that it might actually happen next year (if they get by Barrios and Katsidis).
