Pac's Offense helps defensively but when PAC is not on offense his Defense is strong. If you see when PAC gets hit...it's during combination punching....when he's showing lateral movement with footwork his opponets have a very hard time finding their mark.

For proof of Manny not being able to cut the ring off intelligently, look at the latter rounds of the Cotto fight. When the Puerto Rican switched to survival mode - on his bike and keeping away - Pacquiao was simply duplicating his trail of movement. It was as if Cotto was laying down wavy lines of jelly beans around the ring, and Pacquiao would follow them.

Now this may be irrelevant if Mayweather’s legs have indeed gone. But if he still has the movement before his temporary retirement, I see Mayweather dictating the fight pretty easily.

What people aren't putting enough emphasis on is Manny's footwork. Floyd will undoubtably be the bigger man in this fight, even if Floyd comes in light.

But in this scenario, Floyd size may be a disadvantage, especially if he comes in as solid as he was against Mosley.

The reason is because Floyd will likely try to keep the fight in the middle of the ring, but Manny's superior footspeed and quickness may allow him to strike Floyd at angles that will penetrate Floyd's defense.

If Floyd's footwork isn't up to par with how it was against Hatton for instance, he'll find himself in a position where he's the stalker, like his fight against Sharmba Mitchell, who had noticeably quicker feet than Floyd as the smaller man.

If Floyd is in the same form he was against Hatton, and basically runs from Pac, I think he stands the best chance, especially of hitting him on the way in and using his superior reach to his advantage.

As far as the shoulder roll is concerned, it just depends on his opponents angle. Sometimes it does work, but it's going to be dangerous to use that style of defense against a guy like Pac who can throw punches from so many angles and is effective at making himself a small target.

More than likely, Floyd will find himself in a position where he has to use the highguard for a lot of this fight, especiallly when Pac is in range, which will reduce his offensive effectiveness.

And for the record, the thread starter is greatly underestimating Manny's defense. Manny's lateral mobility and speed is unmatched, his technique is solid. He does get hit of course, but he also punches in combination pretty much throughout the duration of the fight.

Thats not necessarily true. Mosley has preddy bad defense and nearly had him out of there. I think the opposite that no defensive minded fighter will beat Floyd. Thats his game.

Fair point! one more thing i think the sting in Floyds punches is going to really surprise Pac. look at it and it has really surprised his last 3 opponents. Marquez Mosley and Hatton were taken aback.
Floyd is a really physically strong man now. I remember hatton's post fight comments... he was befuddled he couldnt understand the effect of flyds punches on him. he was really saying was Floyd doesnt present as a murderous puncher but the effect of the punches on him were huge. This becuase Floyd hits you with punches you dont see more than any other boxer out there, and the old adage in boxing is that the ones you dont see hurt you more.
Pac has been getting hit with punches he sees coming, will be interesting to see how he reacts to the ones he doesnt see

emmanuel has a habit of dropping his left hand for whatever reason whenever he uses his right. His recent opponents haven't had the quickly timed lead right hand to take advantage of this. Mayweather also has an arm length that's 3 inches greater.

Anyone know if this RingInsider is a good source? Doesn't really look like a reliable source.

Margarito caught him with a very good uppercut that Pacquiao didn't see coming, he took it very well.

But yeah, I see what your saying. :good
